Robert was a well-known scientist who paved the way for biometrics and DNA research. He also started the Virginia Biotechnology Association, which has been around for 57 years.

On December 10, 2001, a neighbor came over to Robert’s house to see if he was okay because he hadn’t shown up for work.

Inside, he found a scientist who had been brutally slain.  The murder weapon was thought to be a 27-inch sword, and the crime’s nature astounded many.

Robert was suspected of being murdered two days before he was found. Investigator began with his family, with Clara Schwartz, his youngest daughter, being the first to be identified.

Clara’s friend Katherine Inglis claimed that Clara was involved in her father’s murder only a few days after Robert was captured. She met Kyle Hulbert, a Maryland adolescent, at a Renaissance Fair in September 2001.

Clara had spent a lot of time talking about how her father, Robert, was an abusive man who tried to poison her meals in order to murder her.

While attending a university in Virginia, Clara created the roleplaying game Underworld, and she and Kyle became friends because of their similar interest in witchcraft and the occult.

Kyle has a history of mental illness and had previously spent time in psychiatric facilities when he was 18 years old. When Clara told him about her father’s alleged abuse, he felt impelled to defend her.

The authorities discovered instant messages between Clara and Kyle on her computer, in which they plotted the murder of Robert.

In one of the texts, she claimed that if Kyle was the murderer, she did not want the crime to be linked to her.

Clara first testified during interrogation that she thought Kyle was kidding when he mentioned killing Robert. Clara was sentenced to 48 years in prison in February 2003, when she was 20 years old.

She is still being held at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Troy, Virginia, and might be released as early as 2043.
