Claire Richards Children: Meet Charlie Hill, Daisy Hill

The pop group TSD, with which Claire began her career, disbanded after two hits. She put in an audition for the band that would become Steps after working as a receptionist for seven months. She was given the chance to join the gang, but only if she reduced her weight.

After candidates responded to an advertisement in The Stage newspaper, Steve Crosby and Barry Upton—the authors of “5,6,7,8”—along with manager Tim Byrne founded Steps.

The initial lineup comprised Watkins, Scott-Lee, Derek O’Brien, Maddy Chan, and Mitch Stevens following tryouts. O’Brien, Chan, and Stevens eventually disbanded because they desired more than simply a one-hit-wonder single.

In May 1997, fresh tryouts were held, and Tozer, Latchford-Evans, and Richards were chosen as the remaining members.

On September 7, 2020, Steps announced the title of their album, What the Future Holds, as well as the day that it would be released. The album’s pre-orders opened on September 8, and it was released on November 27 of that same year. The next day, they revealed a brand-new 14-date UK tour starting in November 2021, with Sophie Ellis-Bextor as a special guest.
