In 1996, he began his radio career as an intern with Wildman Steve and DJ Riz, joining the Flip Squad, which included DJs such as Funkmaster Flex, Biz Marke, DJ Enuff, Mister Cee, Frankie Cutlass, and Mark Ronson. They produced an album called “The Flip Squad All-Star DJs” two years later, and then joined up with DJ Riz to open for him at clubs. This proved worthwhile, as he was soon contacted by rap singer Lil’ Kim, with whom he travelled across Europe and the United States. Chipa worked with Frankmaster Flex and his Big Dawg Pitbulls group when he returned, and subsequently began appearing on Frankmaster Flex’s nightly programme on Hot 97.
Cipha’s fame grew over time, and he was granted his own programme on Hot 97 called Cipha Saturdays. After a time, he went to Shade 45 and became the presenter of “The Cipha Sounds Effect,” with Angela Yee, Emoticon Farragut Foster, and DJ Wonder. Between 2004 and 2008, the programme ran for four years before returning to Hot 97 to co-host the Chipa/Rosenberg Experience with Peter Rosenberg. Chipa created a podcast called The Juan Epstein Podcast, which aired on Shade 45 before they joined forces. Cipha’s net worth rose steadily as their programme gained in popularity, but his time on Hot 97 came to an end in 2015 following numerous disagreements with station executives and Cipha’s comments. Nonetheless, he quickly found new work when he joined the ROC Nation, boosting his net worth even more.
