In addition to being an entrepreneur, author, speaker, media personality, musician and makeover artist, Christopher Jon Hopkins (often known as “The Makeover Guy”) was born on January 24, 1964, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Christopher grew up in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, where he attended Redwood Falls High School, where he earned state awards in declamation, piano, and vocal performance. Christopher began his college career in 1982 at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he sang as a freshman soloist with the St. Olaf Choir. In 1990, Hopkins established the Christopher Hopkins Salon, which is housed in the Hubbard Broadcasting building, which also houses KSTP, KSTP-FM, and KSTP-TV, among other stations. While working there, he was in charge of the on-air talent’s appearances and became a frequent contributor on “Good Company,” a local daytime chat programme presented by Steve Edelman and Sharon Anderson.
In 1994, Hopkins moved his business to downtown Minneapolis and renamed it the Christopher Hopkins Image Center to honour his father (CHIC). He has been on major television shows such as HGTV [Home and Garden Television], The Oprah Winfrey Show, and The Today Show. Mr. Hopkins has collaborated with a number of notable people, including Hillary Clinton. While working as a baritone vocal soloist, he appeared with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic in a PBS televised concert, the Grand Teton Music Festival, and the Hannover Radio Philharmonic (Norddeutscher Rundfunk), all of which were broadcast worldwide. With the song “A Nightingale Singed in Berkeley Square,” from his 1999 first vocal album, “I’ll Be Seeing You,” he was nominated for a 1999 Gay Lesbian American Music Award for Best Pop Vocal Album.
