Fans were shocked to see Danish attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen collapse on the field during a Euro 2021 match against Finland. However, he is in good health condition at present.
Christian Eriksen is a Danish professional footballer who currently plays as an attacking midfielder for Premier League club Brentford as well as the Denmark national team. He can also play as a central midfielder or a mezzala.
Eriksen made his senior club debut in 2010 at the age of 18 for Ajax, where he won three Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup. Let’s get into his present health conditions and prior illness.
Christian Eriksen Illness Explored
In the 43rd minute of Denmark’s Euro 2021 opener against Finland, Christian Eriksen went down. The shocking scenes occurred near the end of the first half of the teams’ first game.
Eriksen had collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest, it was later revealed. His distraught teammates gathered in a circle around the Inter Milan star, some of whom were in tears.
The Group B match was called off due to a “medical emergency,” according to UEFA. After rushing down to the pitch, Sabrina Kvist Jensen, the midfielder’s wife, was seen in tears and being consoled by Danish players.
Later that evening, the match resumed, ending in a 1–0 victory for Finland, with Eriksen named UEFA’s man of the match.
Team doctor Morten Boesen and Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand both later expressed regret for the match’s continuation, though Eriksen’s teammate Martin Braithwaite said it was the “least bad decision.”
Eriksen’s cardiac arrest was confirmed the next day by Boesen. The incident drew a comparison to Fabrice Muamba and Abdelhak Nouri, two professional footballers who collapsed during play in similar circumstances and had to retire, the latter suffering permanent brain damage.
