Talks resurfaced over a possible rivalry with Irish boxer Gary O’Sullivan to take place on 12 December 2015 at the London O2 Arena on Anthony Joshua vs. Dillian Whyte’s undercard. The rivalry was well awaited as the two had a history of feuds in the past, with O’Sullivan threatening Eubank on social media.
Throughout the fight, Eubank Jr set the pace, but O’Sullivan showed great resilience to the ongoing hard shots from Eubank, especially the uppercuts. At the end of the 7th round, their fighter, who had sustained a perforated eardrum, retired at O’Sullivan’s corner. Immediately after Eubank beat O’Sullivan, Hennessey Sports revealed that for Blackwell ‘s British middleweight championship they had secured the purse bids and the rights to stage Eubank vs. Nick Blackwell.
Chris Eubank Jr Blackwell
Hennessy Sports announced in February 2016 that the fight between Eubank and Blackwell (19-3-1, 8 KOs) would take place on 26 March at the SSE Arena in London, Wembley. The battle was shown live on Channel 5. Eubank dominated the battle to the point that his trainer, father Chris Eubank Sr., began to beg the referee to stop the battle.
Blackwell was taken to hospital with bleeding on the brain and was placed in a medically-induced coma for treatment. The fight averaged 1.5 million viewers on Channel 5. After the eighth round, elder Eubank ordered Eubank to avoid hitting Blackwell in the lead.
