Freedom Convoy & Protest Organizer Chris Barber Arrested In Ottawa
Chris Barber is a key organizer of the protest, ” Freedom Convoy”, who was arrested in downtown Ottawa, on Thursday 17, 2022.
Along with him two other organizers, Tamara Lich and Benjamin Dichter also have a class-action lawsuit filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
“The never-ending blaring horns have caused unbearable torment in the sanctity of their own homes,” according to the lawsuit.
Similarly, the noise has been “constant and excruciatingly loud” for the 6,000 residents who live near the protests. It has caused “significant” mental stress and suffering.
The protest has been occupying Ottawa streets for three weeks now. The Ontario Superior Court had issued a 10-day injunction to prevent truckers from continuously honking their horns on February 7, 2022.
On Monday, February 7, Justice Hugh McLean issued the injunction. As a result, Barer and his team agreed to restrict honking between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
McLean claims that the injunction is only temporary because he needs to hear more evidence, but that he has heard enough to rule today.
It looks like McLean finally got the evidence that he was searching for to arrest the protester.
As the protests enter their fourth weekend, police set up a secure area with nearly 100 checkpoints Thursday afternoon. To keep convoy protesters out of the downtown core.
Residents will be able to enter and exit the area through the checkpoints, but illegal protesters will be turned away, according to Bell.
