Each year since its inception in July 2014, the African Muzik Magazine Award has honored Africans who have carried out work deemed worthy in the past few years.

Two new categories have been added to the 2017 edition by AFRIMMA, Best Lusophone and Best Francophone. The idea is to put the artists from these regions more in the limelight, as well as to recognize and represent them on the world stage.
