Chas Newby dead: How did the former Beatles bassist die?

At the age of 81, Chas Newby, who briefly played bass for The Beatles in 1960, has passed away.

The musician joined the group while Stuart Sutcliffe, their original bassist, was away pursuing his art career. The precise reason for Newby’s demise is still unknown.

Heartfelt condolences have been expressed in response to the news of his passing, including one from Roag Best, the brother of former Beatles drummer Pete Best. Roag spoke of their tremendous sorrow at the loss of their good friend, Chas Newby, describing him as a relaxed person with a friendly grin.

He noted that Newby was well known for his work as the bassist for both The Beatles and The Quarrymen.  Roag and his family will miss him terribly and will never forget him.

A close friend of Newby’s also penned a heartfelt obituary, detailing his brief stint as The Beatles’ second bassist, replacing Stuart Sutcliffe and before Paul McCartney. The acquaintance brought up Newby’s role with the revived Quarrymen and his membership in a neighborhood bar band.

They remembered the fun jam sessions they had together and were grateful that Newby was at their daughter’s wedding reception. The buddy continued by praising Newby’s sense of humor, which made everyone he came in contact with grin, and emphasizing how much he would be missed.
