career
Charlie began his music career back in 1982, however, he gained notoriety from 1985 onwards. He achieved greater success in 1985 with the release of Polygram Nigeria’s “Nwata Miss”, which included his title track. His most popular album was 1990 – the title was a reference to Nigeria’s corrupt military government, which was expected to transition power to civilians that year, although civilian rule did not begin until 1999.
In 1990, Charly Boy earned mixed reviews due to its political nature and also caused a national controversy after which a number of radio stations refused to play the theme song. Despite this, 1990 was one of Nigeria’s best-selling albums of 1988, and Charly Boy was credited with using his music to go against his government, a lá Fela Kuti. In recent years Charly Boy has had several collaborations with his cousin Dr. Alban performed, notably with the song “Carolina” which was an earlier hit by Dr. Alban – “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner” – embodied. The revised version was sung in Nigerian pidgin and was a hit in Nigeria. The pair also recorded the songs “Work Work Africa” and “Commercial Waste”.
Charly Boy’s music has always been a national talking point. Among the tracks on the 1990 album was “Big Bottom,” a tribute to the female derriere. The music’s scenes were so obscene that it was banned from being played on radio in most Nigerian states due to its somewhat dingy lyrics. It was later banned from television and eventually rejected by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission for obscenity.
He was President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria and a 2011 judge of the Idol Series.
wife, children, grandchildren
Charles has failed time and time again when it comes to his married life. As a result of his unending love affairs, his mother persuaded him to get married at the age of 19. His first two marriages failed before he met and married Lady Diana, an African American singer and former fashion designer, whom he’s still holding on to and doesn’t look like stopping; The marriage has existed for almost four decades.
The exact number of his children is not known however, according to his wife Lady Diana Charly already had seven children before getting married, she had two children for him, this brings the number of his children to nine – this is the number we can assure you at this time , although some websites report that he has fourteen children.
