In 2002, he signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, however a knee injury prevented him from playing until 2005. In 2008, he incurred another serious injury and in the same year, he became an unrestricted free agent. In 2009, he was re-signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Despite the fact that Batch did not announce that he officially retired from the NFL, he became a pre-game studio analyst with KDKA-TV last 2013 with ex-Steeler defensive lineman Edmund Nelson and KDKA-TV sports anchor Bob Pompeani. In the year 2015, he was able to replace Nelson as the color commentator for the preseason games of KDKA-TV and also worked as the main studio analyst for the pre-game coverage of the Steelers before it aired nationally on The NFL Today.
