Charley Pride net worth: Charley Pride was an American country music singer, musician, and former baseball player who had a net worth of $40 million at the time of his death in December 2020. Charley was known as the first black country music super star. He was the second best-selling performer on RCA Records after Elvis for many years and one of very few African-American performers to find success in country music. In 1971 he won the Country Music Association’s entertainer of the year award. Some of his notable hits include “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin” and “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone”.

Charley Pride was born in Sledge, Mississippi in March 1934 the son of sharecroppers. He served in the Army before moving to Montana to pursue a career as a professional baseball player. During the day he worked at a smelting plant, at night he played semi-professional baseball for a team that would pay him an extra $10 to sing the national anthem before games. He also sang at local bars for fun. He was discovered at one of these local bar gigs and two years later – in 1963 – signed a record contract with RCA.

He soon relocated full-time to Nashville. His debut studio album “Country by Charley” was released in 1966. His 1967 single “Just Between You and Me” was a top 10 hit on the Billboard country singles chart. Over the next two decades, 51 Charley Pride records broke into Billboard’s top 10, with 29 hitting #1.

His singles “Just Between You and Me”, “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin” and “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone” were enormous successes.

His final and 47th album, “Music in My Heart”, was released in 2017.

Charley met his future wife Rozene during his baseball days. They married in 1956 while Charley was home from Army basic training. They had three children and remained married until his death in 2020. Pride had a tumor on his vocal cord in 1997 that was surgically removed at the University of Arkansas.

In 2000 Charley became a minority owner of the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team.

Charley Pride died on December 12, 2020 at the age of 86 from COVID-19 complications. Several weeks earlier he received the Country Music Associations Lifetime Achievement Award. Critics would later point out that some people in attendance at the ceremony were not wearing masks and that Pride likely contracted COVID at the event.

Walter Mercado Net Worth: Walter Mercado was a Puerto Rican director, actor, and writer who had a net worth of $5 million at the time of his death in 2019. It should be noted that Walter’s net worth should have been much higher due to his enormous business success in the 1990s and early 2000s, unfortunately due to a bad contract he did not see much of the financial benefit from this time period. Also, the net worth of $3 million at his death was largely attributable to intellectual property value and the value of his personal belongings. Walter Mercado was born in Puerto Rico in March 1932. He was best known for his TV appearances as an astrologer. Before becoming a famous astrologer, Walter studied singing and became one of the most prolific dancers in Puerto Rico. He acted in the Puerto Rican telenovelas A Farewell to the Memory and Long Distance. Mercado had his own dramatic arts school called Walter Actors Studio 64. He eventually started making astrological predictions on TV while wearing fancy robes. He started out as a fill-in and then became a regular. He started his own astronomy segment in 1970 in El Show de las 12. He also hosted a weekly astrology television show for WKAQ-TV. He was named Mr. Television by the Asosiacion de Cronistas del Espectaculo de Nueva York in 1986. His show aired on Univision in the Americans until January 2010 when their 15 year relationship ended. For those 15 years he read the horoscopes of the 12 zodiac signs as part of the final segment of the program “Primer Impacto”. He authored several books and had a book published in three languages. Many of his capes have been sold at auctions or donated to a museum. At his peak, Walter Mercado reached 120 million viewers every day for over a decade. Lawsuit: Unfortunately Walter also became embroiled in a lawsuit over the rights to his own name and likeness. In 2012 he lost a lawsuit against Bart Enterprises International over a contract signed in 1995 that gave all international intellectual property rights to a former manager. Walter severed ties with Bart Enterprises in 2006 after family members alerted him to the particulars of the contract. Walter died on November 2, 2019 at the age of 87.
