He may not be famous in the entertainment world yet, but this Asian-American actor, Charles Melton, has won acclaim for his portrayal of the iconic Reggie on the CW series, Riverdale
Charles made his first appearance in the series’ second season as Reggie Mantle replacing Ross Butler in the role. He was, however, in the media before his role in the series. The man is also a professional model and a prime target for advertisements.
Biography of Charles Melton (Age and Ethnicity)
The famous actor of the television series, Riverdale was born on January 4, 1991 in Juneau, Alaska. He was, however, raised in Manhattan, Kansas. Charles Melton is the son of Phil Melton (father) and Sukyong Melton (mother) and he has one sister, Tammie Melton.
Melton is of mixed ethnicity. His heritage is not limited to his Asian American identity, as he is of Korean and Caucasian descent. Part of her growing family is her nephew, Sean.
Charles attended Kansas State University where he played football for 2 years on their Division 1 team. Nevertheless, he went on to pursue a career in acting and was discovered at the ARTS (Applause Rising Talent Showcase) show in Orlando, Florida .
Career
In 2012, during New York Fashion Week, he made his walking modeling debut for Park & Ronen and VLOVNew. Since then, he has participated in the Dolce & Gabbana lookbook and has also been on the cover of Prestige magazine.
He made his acting debut in Season 5 and Episode 14 (New New York) of the TV show, Glee (2014) as a male model. His television credits include American Horror Story: Hotel (2011) where he played the short role of Mr. Wu and Reggie in the CW movie Riverdale (2016).
Charles Melton was found as the perfect partner to replace Ross in the pivotal role of Reggie in season 2 of the show after he left (from the show) to focus on his role in the Netflix movie. 13 reasons why. Of course, he met the creator’s (Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa) criteria for the role; sexy and funny. The role is considered his biggest role so far.
As expected anyway, Charles online hated when he took on the role of Reggie but chose not to react to it as he expected it given the character is such an iconic character. These comments and reactions went both ways; whether you’re okay or not, he reasoned it out and decided not to let it bother him in the least.
Reggie fans were thrilled that the former was replaced by another Asian actor as they liked the diversity of the character. His persona as a loud-mouthed high school bully couldn’t have been described better.
Charles portrayed Colin in his film debut, the 2015 short, Bad Friend. He has appeared in other films and they include, Eyeless Face (2015) as Doc, The Chain (2016) as Chris. His latest role is as Cage, a supporting role in the 2018 action film The Thinning: New World Order co-starring Logan Paul.
