Charlene Tilton Today | 2018 – 2019

It’s 40 years since Dallas first hit our screens and Charlene Tilton is looking different as the years have gone by. Charlene , 59, played Lucy Ewing in the hit series which started back in 1978 and was known for her sly ways and romantic plotlines. She was nicknamed the “Poison Dwarf” by the late Sir Terry Wogan , due to her antics on screen, as well as her height.

Charlene, who’s 4’11” was seen wearing a green jumper and gilet with a pair of leggings and Ugg boots as she carried a bag of shopping.

In its heyday the soap commanded 65million viewers when Lucy Ewing married medical student Mitch Cooper in 1981. It was known for huge storylines such as the “Who shot JR?” cliffhanger, which left viewers waiting eight months to find out the answer. The soap ended in 1990 but was given a reboot between 2012 and 2014, which Charlene returned for. Charlene was a huge sex symbol while on the show, commanding over £36,000 per episode.

She got the role at the age of 17 and explained to Oprah Winfrey: “I was a latchkey kid. I ran up and down the streets of Hollywood.” She revealed that she connected with the role of Lucy as soon as she read the script.

She said: “I read the description of the character: my age range, a ‘manipulative little sex pot.’ But being raised by her family, because she doesn’t have her parents. I said, ‘That’s my part.’ I clicked with this character.”

Charlene went out in week five of the show after she lost a skate-off against children’s TV presenter Sam Nixon. After leaving the show she said: “I feel all right. I’ve had the most amazing experience. I’ve worked with the best wardrobe, hair and make up department I’ve ever worked with.”

Charlene Tilton And Johnny Lee Wedding

Charlene Tilton married her first husband, country singer Johnny Lee, on February 14, 1982. They divorced on June 28, 1984.  In 1982, Charlene married country singer Johnny Lee. They had a daughter, Cherish, but divorced two years later. Then, in 2001, Charlene began dating cinematographer Cheddy Hart.

Actress Charlene Tilton of the ‘Dallas’ television series and country singer Johnny Lee were married Sunday afternoon in a double-ring Valentine’s Day ceremony along the Lake Tahoe shore. Miss Tilton, 22, who reportedly makes $30,000-a-week for her portrayal of Lucy Ewing on the ‘Dallas’ series, wore a white gown.

Her maid of honor was a close friend who was not identified. Lee, 36, wore a black velvet coat, black shirt, pink tie and a custom black felt hat made by Indian Charley One Horse. Best man was singer Mickey Gilley. It was the first marriage for each. The brief civil ceremony was held at the lake-front home of entertainer Tony Orlando. It was not disclosed who officiated. Among the 43 people in attendance were Orlando, country singer Lacy J. Dalton and ‘Dallas’ producer Leonard Katzman. No other members of the ‘Dallas’ cast were present. Music was supplied by Rocky Stone, a guitar player with Gilley’s Urban Cowboy Band.

The petite Miss Tilton, a former Hollywood High School cheerleader, made her professional acting debut in Walt Disney’s ‘Freaky Friday.’ The couple, who will live in the bride’s Coldwater Canyon home in Los Angeles, plan to honeymoon next month in Israel. Lee, who became a nationally-known country personality with his hit song ‘Lookin’ For Love,’ has a home in Pasadena, Texas, a suburb of Houston.

Charlene Tilton And Cheddy Hart

Cheddy Hart and Charlene Tilton were in a relationship for 8 years before Cheddy Hart died aged 54. Two years ago, on the day before Christmas Eve, her world had been turned on its head when fiancé Cheddy Hart died suddenly from heart failure at the age of 54. ‘He was gone, just like that,’ says Charlene, 52. ‘I was in such shock. I still am. I was an absolute mess.

‘I couldn’t get off the couch. I couldn’t do anything. Then, about seven months later, something clicked. I thought, “What am I going to do? Just lay down and join him?” He wouldn’t have wanted that. My daughter [28-year-old country singer Cherish] wouldn’t have wanted that either. Somehow I had to get out of that depression, so I changed everything. I don’t drink any more. I don’t smoke. I try to be really healthy and grab any opportunity that comes along with both hands. That’s not to say I’m not still affected by it. But hey, I’m coming out the other end.’

Charlene Tilton says if she’d been asked to take part in Dancing On Ice two years ago, her reply would have been, ‘Not in a million years!’ ‘I’d have been content to sit on a couch with my wine and a cigarette watching it,’ says the diminutive Dallas star, who’s fresh from rehearsals for the ITV1 show with skating partner Matt Gonzalez.

‘But before they called I’d just come to a point in my life where something had clicked. I’d thought, “Life’s too short. You’re not guaranteed your next breath, so you need to make the most of each opportunity that comes your way.”’ Moving on: Charlene Tilton is one of the big stars of this year’s series of Dancing on Ice

LA-based Charlene had two failed marriages behind her, but had truly believed Cheddy, a cinematographer, was ‘the one’ when she met him eight years ago. They shared their lives and homes, spent weekends on his ‘un-fancy’ boat and laughed at just about everything. She says he made her feel ‘cherished’ and ‘adored’.

Her grief is still raw as she recalls the day Cheddy died. ‘We were talking about what I was going to make for Christmas dinner when he suddenly said, “Something’s not right.” I felt, “Oh God,” and got him in the car and took him to hospital.

They told me it was pneumonia at first. I said, “I know he doesn’t have pneumonia.” We’d been waiting two hours when they admitted him. He said, “I’m so sorry I’m ruining Christmas.” I said, “Honey, it’s fine. I’ll be with you, we can have Christmas here. We’re going to get you better.” He just looked at me and said, “Thank you for being there.” I said, “Where else would I be?”

Charlene Tilton Dallas Show

Dallas is an American soap opera on prime time television that aired on CBS from April 2, 1978, to May 3, 1991.  To the delight of “Dallas” watchers, the Ewings were one of the most gloriously dysfunctional families ever to grace a television screen. When not on screen, the actors in the long-running series (1978-1991) were a family, period.

The subject came up when Charlene Tilton, who played Lucy Ewing on “Dallas,” was asked why the show struck a chord with viewers. For five consecutive years in the 1980s, “Dallas” ranked no lower than No. 2 in the Nielsen ratings.

Tilton credited chemistry. “It was something that we had off screen,” she said. “And you can’t buy it. You can’t bottle it. It’s just a rare gift when that happens. And we had it. And we became a family pretty instantaneously when we all met. I think that played a very big part. I also feel like the storylines at that point and time — it was the ‘80s. There was a lot of money and family drama and things like that. They were great scripts, great acting.”

“Dallas,” which premiered April 2, 1978, is turning 40 this year. Tilton and fellow cast members Linda Gray, Patrick Duffy and Steve Kanaly are returning to the Dallas area Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, for 40th anniversary festivities at Southfork Ranch and Longhorn Ballroom, which served as filming locations for the show. Fans can purchase tickets ($125) at dallas40.com.

In advance of the reunion, Tilton took part in a phone interview with the Tulsa World. She’s the “pup” at the reunion. She was only 17 when “Dallas” launched. “I was a baby,” she said.
