Cecily Mbarire Political life

Three legislators from Mt Kenya East region have endorsed Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire for the Embu gubernatorial seat in 2017. Mt Kenya East political caucus chairman Lenny Kivuti, Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki and Chuka/Igamba-Ng’ombe MP Muthomi Njuki hailed Ms Mbarire’s leadership capabilities and urged the residents “to promote” her.

The leaders said the MP has a wealth of experience, was among the most trusted by President Uhuru Kenyatta and has frequently been consulted on various matters.

“Ms Mbarire has performed well as an MP and has developed her constituency. She should be taken to the next level,” said Mr Kivuti, who is also the Embu Senator.

Prof Kindiki said Ms Mbarire can be relied upon to get a solution in the face of a crisis.

This has however not gone down well with Governor Martin Wambora who claimed that Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire should not be voted in to replace him in 2017 as she was married outside the county. She is married to Denis Apaa who hails from Teso County.

Wambora said voting for Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire as the county governor would see their resources lost.

“If elected as governor she will direct the county’s wealth to Teso where her husband’s originate from… We don’t want Embu’s wealth to be taken elsewhere,” said Wambora in March 2016.

Wambora further claimed that Cecily Mbarire had surrendered her rights of being and indigenous resident after her marriage to an outsider.

Cecily Mbarire fired back terming the governor’s statements as petty, selfish, and desperate and immature.

Six seek running mate post in Cecily Mbarire governorship quest

Six people from Mbeere South constituency have expressed interest in being Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire’s running mate for the gubernatorial seat.

But Embu County Assembly Speaker Kariuki Mate, who is leading the campaigns for Ms Mbarire, said they were keen on picking a person from the expansive constituency to boost inclusivity.

Speaking at Makawani village during a housewarming party hosted by Assembly Majority Leader Andrew Musakwa, Mr Mate said they were yet to settle on a particular candidate and would consult widely.

Among those seeking the post is Mavuria MCA and Budget Committee Chairman Joseph Mwaniki.

However, Mr Musakwa said the post should be reserved for a person from Mwea ward, which is predominantly inhabited by the Kamba community.

He said the Embu and Mbeere communities had most of the seats and it was only fair for gubernatorial contesters to appoint someone from Mwea.

The current Deputy Governor, Dorothy Nditi, hails from Mavuria ward in Mbeere South constituency.

“We will only support a candidate who will appoint a running mate from this ward, we don’t want to be isolated,” he said.

He said the Kamba community was ready to support an aspirant from Mbeere for the seat of Member of Parliament.

The current MP is Mutava Musyimi, from Mwea ward.

“We had an agreement (with the Mbeere) that we shall have an MP for 10 years and then had it over to the Mbeere community. It is only fair that we get a deputy governor,” Mr Musakwa added.

Ms Mbarire, who was present, appealed for support, saying she should not be discriminated against for being a woman.

She said she had gained enough experience having served as an MP for close to 15 years.

“What matters is not the anatomy but the brain and ability to serve people. Women don’t discriminate [against others] since they have no tribe or clan. I will ensure that every corner of the county has its rightful share of resources,” Ms Mbarire said.

She added that there was little to show for the amount that the county had received from the national government for the past three years.

A man  charged for calling Cecily Mbarire a prostitute

Arasto Gitonga Mwita,  was   charged at Embu court with threatening to kill Runyenjes Member of Parliament Cecily Mbarire. He appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Paul Nandi and denied the allegations.

The court was told that on May 30th, 2015 at Kanja South sub location, Embu County without authority threatened to kill Cecily Mbarire through a mobile text.

In the first count, the accused is said to have written an SMS to the MP; “Nitapanga njama u die like MP Muchai. I Promise u, u will not see the next election (I will ensure that you die like MP George Muchai. I promise that you will not live to see the next election).”

The second count the accused faced was the improper use of licensed telecommunication system.

The court heard that May 30th, 2015 at Kanja, Embu County by means of a licensed telecommunication system namely Safaricom through mobile number 0734 8****1 sent an abusive message to number 0722 4****6 which belonged to Hon Cecily Mbarire.

Gitonga had sent a message to Mbarire saying; “Usichukue simu maraya ya mwanamke, loosely translated as Do not pick my calls you prostitute.”
