Catherine Bach Career
Catherine’s professional debut was as one of the children in a production of The Sound of Music. She made her debut on screen in 1973’s upstate South Carolina murder thriller The Midnight Man starring Burt Lancaster, in which she portrayed slain coed Natalie Claiburn. She later starred Melody in the 1974 movie Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.
Through her husband, Catherine learned about The Dukes of Hazzard’s audition. When she got there, she discovered that the producers were looking for someone who resembled Dolly Parton; even though she didn’t look like what they were looking for, she was immediately hired. She was first recommended to wear a tight white turtleneck, go-go boots, and a poodle skirt by the producers, but she requested the freedom to bring her own costume, which consisted of a homemade T-shirt, a pair of cut-off denim shorts, and high heels.
At first, Bach had doubts about the suitability of the cut-off shorts, claiming that she could not wear them in a restaurant setting. The servers at the restaurant across the street were dressed in “small miniskirts that matched the tablecloths,” Catherine discovered when the producers asked him to go there. Alongside James Best, John Schneider, and Tom Wopat, she played the lead in the program.
She posed as Daisy Duke for a poster that was suggested by the show’s producers and went on to sell 5 million copies. When Catherine visited the White House with a poster for one of her former professors who was then employed there, it generated a sensation and Nancy Reagan took a liking to it. While Catherine was starring in The Dukes of Hazzard, her legs were insured for $1,000,000. In 1985, she served as the model for the figurehead for the schooner Californian.
She played supporting roles in a number of obscure movies after the series ended. She starred in the Canadian family drama series African Skies from 1992 to 1994. She made a guest appearance on Monk in 2006, and in the comedy You Again in 2010, she made a brief appearance. As Anita Lawson, a recurring character, Catherine joined the cast of the CBS daytime serial opera The Young and the Restless in 2012. She introduced a collection of diamond jewelry at Debenhams in 2002.
