On Tuesday morning, Donna Spencer’s arrest charges were filed against her at the Catawba County Detention Center. According to Angie Grube, the State Bureau of Investigation’s public information director, she was given a $9,900 secured bond after appearing before a magistrate.
According to the SBI, the case dates back to April 2020. Then, according to Grube, the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys ordered the SBI to look into suspected criminal conduct by Catawba County Register of Deeds Donna Hicks Spencer.

After an investigation into a forgery case in 2018, police revealed the charges against Donna L. Spencer, 57, on Tuesday.
“It was discovered after finishing the investigation that a considerable sum of money was taken over time from two business accounts and one personal account using fake documents,” the Ellicott Police Department said in a news statement.
From 2018 through 2019, Spencer allegedly faked several checks in various amounts, according to police. Petit theft, six counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, nine counts of great third-degree robbery, and 16 counts of second-degree forgery were all filed against her.
She will appear in Ellicott Town Court at a later date.
The amount was seized, and the police did not disclose the businesses and personal accounts from which it was taken.
