After the popularity of his 2008 presidential bid, Paul announced in July 2011 that he would forgo seeking another term in Congress in order to focus on his 2012 bid for the presidency. In January 2013, Paul retired from Congress but still remains active on college campuses, giving speeches promoting his libertarian vision.
