Carmen Nebel is a German TV presenter with shows like “Welcome to Carmen Nebel” or “The most beautiful Christmas hits”.

Nebel attended Humboldt University of Berlin where she majored in German studies, English studies and pedagogy. She then began appearing on GDR television, working for Deutscher Fernsehfunk (DFF) throughout the 1980s upon completing her degree studies.

“Frau Nebel, when are you finally getting married?”

Ms. Nebel, what did you wish for your birthday?

There was a big wish I had. No, no diamond ring or something. But simply: that my family and I stay healthy. As normal as it sounds, it is so important.

How did you celebrate?

Fair: I drank warm chamomile tea, placed a blanket over my legs and celebrated where I could not get a train. (laughs) Fun aside, I did not celebrate as spectacularly as some might think.

Many people say: you do not get older, you get better! How did you become better?

I do not know any better. But more relaxed and relaxed. And maybe even the audience will feel it in our TV programs. I am pleased that we have very good and stable ratings to this day, the tendency in recent shows is even increasing. This shows me that the audience remains true to us and likes to let a light fog, coupled with many stars and good music, into their living room.

What’s your favorite birthday reminder?

As a kid I always celebrated a huge party. Because my birthday fell in the middle of the summer holidays – and then I was together with about 100 children in summer camp. That was fun. And even if we had supposedly nüscht in the East so, there was always candy. Oh, the younger ones among the elders know what I mean. These delicious Zetti crispy flakes, the Grabow marshmallows or – that was the coronation – the Schlagersüßtafel.

Do you even have to smile about the fact that you can now officially order the seniors’ plate in the restaurant?

So I’ll tell you something: My plates actually look a bit clearer for a while, because I can not do so much anymore. But the main thing is that it tastes anyway!

For almost six years you have been dating the musician Norbert Endlich.

How would you have reacted if he had asked for your birthday?

I would have been very surprised …

When will you finally marry?

Do you think when I finally marry – or the Lord Finally? (laughs) Anyway, let’s see!

What would be the perfect wedding for you?

I would marry in a small circle. A huge wedding on a castle with white doves and fireworks would not be for me. It would be important only that the right partner stands next to me.

How do you manage to still look like 40? Is there a secret recipe?

Well, thank you for the flowers. (laughs) But surely there’s a little “secret recipe”: a good barber and make-up artist. In addition to the full renovation program it must be my genes – it can definitely not be sport and fitness.

For over 20 years, you moderate your Saturday night shows and are the only woman in Germany that has ever done it. How do you imagine your life after the television career?

So one thing will be great: On Sunday morning I will always be able to sleep in a relaxed mood. Because after the shows I sleep restless, wake up very early and look for the odds. It is the applause of the audience. But before critics say, let them lie down – nothing! I still enjoy my job and at the age of 60 I’m not yet retired.
