They are a Swedish rock band that was founded in Jönköping, Sweden, in 1992 by guitarist Peter Svensson, bassist Magnus Sveningsson, drummer Bengt Lagerberg, pianist Lars-Olof Johansson, and lead vocalist Nina Persson. The band’s line-up has remained mostly constant since that time. Their first album Emmerdale (1994) established a strong foundation in their native nation while also achieving considerable success overseas, particularly in Japan. It was not until the release of their second studio album, Life (1995), that they gained worldwide recognition. Their reputation skyrocketed when their song “Lovefool,” from the album First Band on the Moon (1996), was included on the soundtrack of Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which helped to further their rise to fame.

Other songs from the album Gran Turismo included “Erase/Rewind” and “My Favorite Game,” both of which were released as singles (1998). In 2003, the band released Long Gone Before Daylight, a mellower country-infused album that marked the band’s comeback after a five-year sabbatical. Super Extra Gravity (2005), a continuation of the band’s country music mixed with pop sensibility and further developing in the band’s style, was the best-selling Swedish album of that year, selling over a million copies in the nation. Following a 2006 tour, the band had a lengthy five-year hiatus from musical activity before reforming in 2012 to perform a number of gigs throughout the country. In all, the band sold more than 15 million records across the globe.
