Carlos Alcaraz Garfia Coach: Who trained Carlos Alcaraz?

Many great men and women would not be where they are if not for the shoulders that helped to the heights they have reached. In the world of sports, the best players don’t take all the credit; their coaches do too.

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz would not have achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 127 on February 22, 2021, without the mentorship of Spanish coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Ferrero’s credentials are nothing to take lightly for a coach. He is a Spanish former World No. 1 tennis player with a notable win in the men’s singles title at the 2003 French Open, and the 21st player to hold the top ranking for eight good weeks in September 2003.

Ferrero, now aged 41, was runner-up at both the 2002 French Open and 2003 US Open. His speed and slender physical build won him the moniker “El Mosquito”.

Ferrero hung his racket after the 2012 Valencia Open, but in the year 2017, he returned for a brief doubles stint.

Ferrero started working as a coach of then World no. 11 tennis player Alexander Zverev in 2017, but the working relationship was short-lived as it ended in February 2018 due to several unreconciliable differences between them. In the year 2019, Ferrero would coach 16-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, whom he continues to work with to date.
