Who is Dolly Parton’s husband Carl Thomas Dean? Wiki Bio

Carl Thomas Dean was born in Nashville, Tennessee USA, on 20 July 1942, so his zodiac sign is Cancer and he holds American nationality. He is a businessman, who became somewhat famous after marrying the popular American country singer Dolly Parton.

Early life and education

Carl was raised in Nashville as a single child by his father Edgar Henry Dean who was an attorney, and his mother Virginia Ginny Bates who was a writer and an actress. He attended a local high school in Nashville, where he was physically active playing football and soccer and although he could have followed his dreams of becoming a professional footballer, his parents put pressure on him to attend college and become a (hopefully successful) businessman.

He began attending a public college in 1960, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964.

Career as a businessman

Carl worked several jobs after graduation before he gathered enough money to found his own asphalt-laying company based in Nashville. The company operated from the ‘70s to the beginning of the 2000s when Carl decided he’d had enough of the same job for 30 years.

He is also a bit of an actor, as he appeared in the short drama film “Vigorish” in 2003, which was directed by Jaso Ruha and written by Chris Mohney.

The movie also starred John Colluci and Eric Essix and it follows Chester who, after having a one-night stand, ends up being tied to a chair by the girl’s father who is planning to kill him. Carl was also featured in an episode of the documentary news series “Dateline NBC”, which today stars Lester Holt and Keith Morrison and covers the biggest news stories in America.

Love life and marriage with Dolly Parton

Carl met Dolly in 1964 when he saw her standing next to the Wishy Washy Laundromat. He stopped his car  and advised Dolly who had just moved to Nashville, not to stay in the sun for too long.

They went out on a date just days later, and on 30 May 1966, they married in Ringgold in Georgia at a private ceremony, attended by only Dolly’s mother Avie Lee and the preacher’s wife. They have been together to this today; there have been rumors that the two were never in a really good relationship, because they haven’t been seen attending public events together nor has Carl ever watched her perform live. However, as Dolly has stated, they respect each other’s private lives, admitting that Carl has only seen her perform once. In 2011, Dolly referred to their marriage as their first and last, and stated how she was proud of both of them.

Dolly and Carl renewed their wedding vows on 30 May 2016 after 50 years of marriage – they don’t have children, as Dolly suffers from endometriosis which makes it impossible for her to become pregnant.

Hobbies and other interests

Dolly has stated that her husband is the complete opposite of her. He doesn’t like to attend concerts and enter the spotlight, but doesn’t hate or dislike people who do, and rather enjoys listening to Dolly when she is telling him about what she does and how she does it. Carl is known to be a loner, which is why he can’t be seen in the crowds or spending time with Dolly’s friends and colleagues, often spending his free time walking in parks, reading books, or watching movies on TV.

Some of his favorite actors and actresses are Elvis Presley, Tom Hanks and Anne Hathaway, while his favorite movies are “Forrest Gump”, “Viva Las Vegas” and “Les Miserables”.

Carl and Dolly purchased their Recreational Vehicle (RV) shortly after they married, and although Carl enjoys spending his free time at home the most, they often jump into it and go on a short road trip together, which they call ‘short escapes’, a big change from back in the ‘80s, when the two were living in a 23-room mansion outside Nashville.

Appearance and net worth

Carl is 77 years old. He has short brown hair and brown eyes, is 6ft (1.83m) tall, and weighs around 185lbs (84kgs). As of April 2020, his net worth is estimated at over $20 million, while Dolly’s wealth is reputedly over $600 million.
