The American born pastry chef and judge, Candace Nelson, is well-known for being the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes. She is also the world’s first cupcake baker to open a the first global cupcake bakery. Candace started Sprinkles Cupcake back in 2005. She started Sprinkles in Beverly Hills in 2005.
Nelson’s sophisticated take on the classic American cupcake made Sprinkles an overnight bakery sensation. Nelson graduated from Wesleyan University (class of 1996) and Tante Marie’s Professional Pastry Program in San Francisco.
Prior to starting up a pastry business, Nelson and her husband Charles worked as investment bankers. In 2005, Nelson decided to start up a custom cake business from her home in San Francisco. Later she and Charles moved the business to a former old-fashioned bakery in Los Angeles and began making only cupcakes.
