Cam Gigandet Interview – ‘Reckless’ Star Cam Gigandet … – Elle

Cam Gigandet is a movie star. Not because he’s in movies—which he is, of course (Twilight, Burlesque, Easy A)—but because he happens to be break-your-heart handsome, irreverent beyond reproach, and old school in that slugs-scotch-and-breathes-Camel-Lights kind of way.

In short, the guy’s a total badass. Need more proof? When I meet the 31-year-old for a round of Old Fashioneds at Santa Monica hot spot SHOREbar, he brings along a change of rumpled clothes in a raffia cabana bag and a nipper flask “just in case.”

(It’s all just so Johnny Depp.) But Gigandet—pronounced gee-gone-day—who stars in CBS’ racy new legal drama Reckless, premiering this Sunday at 9 pm EST, is also the perfect drinking buddy.

He’s the kind of guy who lets you try his cocktail, looks up Pacific Coast Highway traffic for you and wears his heart on his sleeve. Speaking of sleeves (the inked kind), don’t mention his, okay? It’s kind of a sore subject.

So, Cam. You’re very good looking. Is that your dad or your mom’s fault?

It’s not that my parents are good looking as much as they’re both very cute. I think my dad’s 5’8″ and my mom’s like a bunny. She’s like 5’2″ or 5’3″.

It’s a cool city—I like the east coast. I don’t like nice weather. I don’t live in L.A. for the weather.

Where would you live it wasn’t for the work?

I would live in New York in the winter and then somewhere else, where it rains, in the summer. I just kind of always—I just prefer rain. San Fran or London, maybe.

Did you pick up any law jargon on set?

“Objection!” [Laughs] I think I did? My arguments aren’t very lawyer-ish. It’s like, “Fuck you. You’re wrong.” Boom. Done. ‘You have been lawyered.’ The one thing from that show that I still say now, which I think is amazing, is, “Bless your heart.”

Do you say that ironically?

Oh yeah.

I want to know who beat me out on this list!

Usher. Hugh Jackman. David Beckham. Objection?

Not yet. Those are all good. Who else?

I can’t remember—all I remember were the outraged Gee-gone-day fans…

Aw, well. Thanks, Mom. It was clearly my mom and my dad scouring the Internet for random injustices.

Do you ever Google yourself?

Fuck no. I think I did when I first moved down here. I’d go on IMBD, but now it’s like, if I’m online, it’s either porn or emails. I don’t even do emails, really. So it’s just porn I guess.

What are your sites?

Well—It’s far too revealing. I’ll tell you later. I don’t even like phones. I can’t do Twitter. I mean, Instagram, I try as much as I can, but they’re really just of my kids. What’s the other one: MySpace or Facebook? I don’t do any of those.

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as “what is clean.” T-shirts and jeans. That’s pretty much it. Every once in a while I like to wear suits, but I mean, that’s not really a style.

What TV do you like to watch?

You mean aside from porn? [Laughs] Game of Thrones, the new and old 24, Homeland, The Blacklist, Justified, Suits…

Who’s your favorite drinking buddy?

My dad. He likes Old Fashioneds, or wine, or scotch on the rocks. And beer. Beer, too.

What is something you’re randomly good at?

Ping pong.

What’s something you’re bad at that everyone would think you’re good at?

I’m not bad at anything so…Oh, um, being humble! Haha no, just kidding. Poker. Or am I bluffing?

Good one. If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I could probably have caramel Frappuccinos for the rest of my life.

What is the one movie you refuse to turn off when it’s on?

Contact—I just watched that and I couldn’t turn it off. Fight Club. Gladiator. It will be four in the morning and I’ll just be standing a foot away from the TV, on my way to bed, and I just can’t move. And the commercials are even interesting at that point. I just watched Waitress with Keri Russell. Oh—The Americans, that’s another show I love!

Do you have a lot of tattoos?

This one is my favorite [gestures to tattoo on forearm]. I want to do something similar with my son’s name. I have a tattoo here [gestures to ‘Godspeed’ on hip]. I’ve analyzed this thing so much that I hate it now. It’s, like, not shaded enough…

Yeah, tattoo anxiety is a unique hell.

It gets so much worse. [Gestures to faded tattoo on bicep] This looks good compared to what it was. I got the black part done when I was 16.

My dad took me. I could say, “Oh, it’s my dad’s fault,” but I was persuasive. I was like, “I want a dragon!” That’s what it is—by the way—a dragon. So then, a few years later, when I was living alone and I didn’t know shit, I went to see a tattoo artist I liked and said, “I just kind of want a background…”

And he was like, “What about something like this?” And so he started—he got about halfway through—I shit you not, this red was practically glowing.

I went home, I got in the shower, and I couldn’t even look at it because I was kind of worried. And then I looked in the mirror—I was like 22 or something—and I just started bawling. I called my dad and was like, “I think I fucked up. I fucked up pretty, pretty good.” Two weeks later, I started getting it removed.
