William Patrick Zalatoris, who was brought to earth on August 16, 1996, is an American professional golfer. He has primarily competed on the PGA Tour, where he has won once, at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship. He has also finished second in three major championships.
Zalatoris began his career as a professional in 2018, although he was unable to go past the first stage of the Korn Ferry Tour Q School. Zalatoris played in Korn Ferry Tour events using sponsor exemptions and Monday qualifying because he had no status in 2019. After placing third in the LECOM Health Challenge on July 7, he was granted membership for the rest of the campaign. He concluded the regular season in 60th place overall and was granted full status for the 2020 campaign.
Zalatoris’ debut triumph as a professional occurred in July 2020, when he won the TPC Colorado Tournament by one shot. His victory qualified him for the U.S. Open at Winged Foot and propelled him to the top of the points standings for the Korn Ferry Tour.
He tied for sixth place, at five over par, with world number one Dustin Johnson at the U.S. Open after making an ace on the par-3 seventh hole during the first round. This was his first top-10 result in a major title. Following the Bermuda Championship in early November, he finished eighth at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship, earning him Special Temporary Member status.
Zalatoris finished second in the Master’s Tournament in April 2021 with a score of 9 under par, one stroke behind champion Hideki Matsuyama, the first male Japanese player to win a major. Zalatoris was named the 2020-21 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.
