DeVille was born in the Bay Ridge neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York, and had a passion for music at an early age. He claims that it was seeing the Beatles perform on “The Ed Sullivan Show” that sparked his interest in music. A few years later, his parents presented him with a guitar and a Japanese Telecaster replica. He listened to a variety of rock bands, some of which subsequently served as inspiration for him.
Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Who, and Kiss were just a handful of the bands that attracted his attention.
DeVille started playing with the band Lace in Brooklyn when he was 18 years old, and has been with them ever since. He also briefly attended New York University, where he intended to get a degree in music theory, but he left out in order to pursue a professional music career. When he made the decision in 1981, he moved to Los Angeles and joined a number of bands in order to pursue a musical career.
