Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to
apply for a Bulgarian Visa.

  • A Kenyan passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.

  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.

  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.

  • Three passport-size photographs (4.5 x 3.5 cm) taken in white background.

  • Travel document must be complete.

  • Proof of financial capability.

  • Proof of accommodation/hotel reservations.

  • Copy of return flight ticket.

  • Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country.

  • A police report showing the traveler does not have a criminal record.

  • Medical insurance that covers the entire duration of stay.

Facts about Bulgaria

Bulgaria has a mix of everything you can think of. Bulgaria Tourist Visa Eligibility &
Requirements

  • The tourist visa allows Kenyans to visit the country for sightseeing, recreation and relaxation purposes.
  • This visa allows foreigners to visit their friends and relatives in the country.
  • A letter of invitation containing contact details from your host in Bulgaria should be provided. 
  • Holders of this visa are not allowed to take up a course to study in any of the institutions in the country.
  • The tourist visa can either be a Type A (short stay) or type B) visa.
  • Applicants are to provide a valid international passport with a  6 months  validity period from the date of departure.
  • The processing time for the Bulgarian tourist visa is 90 days.
  • All visa application forms are to be submitted not earlier than 3 months before the  intended date of travel.
  • Applicants are to provide a copy of a recent bank statement showing proof of sufficient funds (at least $60 per day).
  • Visa applications for minors or judicially disabled persons shall be submitted by their legal representatives or by persons expressly authorized to do so.
  • Applicants should provide a copy of medical insurance that is valid in EU and covers duration of stay.
  • This visa is valid for 90 days and processing requires 10 working days.
  • proof of accommodation or hotel reservation should be provided.
  • You can attend events and festivals while you are in Bulgaria.
  • A letter from your employer in Kenya should be provided. Your employer should state that he/she has granted permission for your leave. Your status in the company and the length of your employment should be clearly stated in the letter.
  • The applicant must provide photocopies of the original passport and ID card, including copy of all visas(valid and expired).
  • If you are under the age of 18 years, the unabridged original copy of your birth certificate should be submitted. You are also required to have a letter of consent signed by both your parents if you are traveling alone.
  • Proof of the incentive of returning to Kenya. This could be your child’s birth certificate or your original marriage certificate.
  • Receipt of paid visa application form should be provided. 
  • Kenyans are not allowed to take up paid or unpaid employment during their time in Bulgaria.
  • Applicants are expected to abide by all the rules guiding this visa.

Bulgaria Business Visa Eligibility &
Requirements

  • Applicants of this Visa are business-oriented travelers who intend to engage in business activities in Bulgaria.

  • The Bulgarian visa is of two types:

    • Short-stay business visa, designated as the “Type C” visa.

    • Long-term business visa, designated as the “Type D” visa.

  • A Kenyan may obtain a Bulgarian Business visa on the ground of registering a limited company, branch or trade representative office in Bulgaria.

  • The short-stay Bulgarian Business visa is a multi-entry visa allowing a stay of 90 days in Bulgaria.

  • There are 3 primary instances for which a long-term Bulgarian Business visa (Type D visa) is issued:

    • For registration of a Trade Representative Office in Bulgaria

    • For registration of a Bulgarian company employing at least 10 local citizens for no fewer than 6 months.

    • For registration of a Bulgarian branch employing at least 10 local citizens for now fewer than 6 months.

  • The most convenient and affordable way for a foreign national to obtain a “Type D” Bulgarian Business visa, and eventually a Bulgarian residence permit is by way of registering a trade representative office in Bulgaria.

  • The trade representative office is regulated by the Investment Promotion Act (IPA) of Bulgaria.

  • The processing time for the business visa is 10 days. 

  • The validity of the Bulgarian business visa is 90 days.

  • Business travelers can negotiate and sign business contracts with their partner company during their time in the country.

  • Kenyans visiting Bulgaria with this visa are allowed to attend conferences, trade fairs, and business summits.

  • Letter from the applicant’s employer written on company’s letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant’s position in the company and clearly stating the purpose of visit to Bulgaria.

  • A letter of invitation from the company in Bulgaria is required. The duration of your trip and the purpose of the visit should be stated.

  • Certificate of business registration of the company in Bulgaria is required.

  • If the company in Bulgaria is going to be responsible for your finances in the country, it should be clearly stated in the letter of invitation.

  • Proof of previous business dealings with the company should be provided if any.

  • Receipt of payment of visa application fee should be provided.

  • Kenyans should have proof that they have the incentive of returning to their country at the expiry of their visa.

  • Applicants of these visa are advised to be vaccinated against yellow fever before applying.

Bulgaria Student Visa Eligibility &
Requirements

  • The eligible applicants of these visa are students who intend to study full-time in one of the institutions of learning in the country.

  • Students should ensure that they have been offered admission into the institution of their choice in Bulgaria before processing this visa.

  • The Bulgarian Student Visa  (D-type Visa) is valid from 3 to 6 months.

  • The student visa can be obtained from any Bulgarian Diplomatic Mission abroad. All non-EU/EEA students aiming to study in Bulgaria must secure this visa.

  • Applicants are to submit their international passport that has a minimum validity of one year from intended date of departure.

  • Applicants are to provide proof of medical insurance valid for the EU member states for the whole period of the trip, covering all costs for repatriation,urgent medical care and emergency hospital treatment for the period of the stay in Bulgaria.

  • The applicant with a Bulgarian student visa must apply for a long-term stay (residency permit) in Bulgaria on arrival .

  • This permit is usually valid for one year maximum and renewable every year for the whole period of the study.

  • Proof of financial sufficiency that covers duration of stay should be submitted.

  • Proof of payment of tuition fee.

  • A letter of acceptance from the institution in Bulgaria should be provided. The course applicant will be offering and the duration of the study program should be clearly stated in the letter.

  • International students are allowed to work part-time when during the session and full-time during breaks.

  • Students who are under the age of 18 years are required to present the unabridged original copy of their birth certificate.

  • For non-Kenyans, a copy of their stay permit in Kenya is required.

  • Certificates and transcripts from previously attended should be provided.

  • A document which proves that you have the incentive to return to your country at the end of your study.

  • Proof of payment of paid visa application fee is required.

Bulgaria Work Visa Eligibility &
Requirements

  • This visa is for Kenyans who intend to take up paid employment in Bulgaria.

  • Applicants of this visa should confirm that they have been offered a job in Bulgaria before initiating the visa application process.

  • Employed applicants are to posses a  work permit  cleared by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.

  • Employees with above 10%  foreign workers, are not allowed to employ more foreigners .

  • The Bulgarian work visa has a validity period of more than 90 days.

  • The Bulgarian work visa is a multiple entry visa.

  •  Applicants whose qualifications do not match the requirements of the job being offered, will not be offered employment and will be denied entry. 

  • A letter from your future employer in Bulgaria should be provided. The company’s address and your proposed job description should be clearly stated in the letter.

  • The certificate of business registration of the company you will be working for should be provided.

  • Proof that you will not be paid below the minimum wage by your employer should be provided.

  • A document that shows that the applicant has the incentive to return to his/her country should be made available during the visa application process.

  • If you are minor traveling without your parents or traveling with one of your parents, a notarized consent signed by both parents is required.

Bulgaria Official Visa Eligibility &
Requirements

  • This visa is for diplomats visiting the country for official purposes.
  • Diplomats visiting the country aim to improve the relationship between the government of Kenya and Bulgaria.
  • A diplomatic note from the Kenyan government is required. The note should contain your position in government, duration, and purpose of your visit to the country.
  • An original invitation letter from the government in Bulgaria is required.
  • Asides Head of States, if your purpose of visiting the country is non-official, this visa will not be issued to you.
  • If you are traveling with a minor, the original copy of the minor’s birth certificate should be presented during the visa application process.
  • Diplomats can attend conferences and meetings while you are in the country.
  • You are not allowed to study with this visa.
  • Holders of this visa cannot be paid for the services they render in the country.
  • Applicants should ensure they have a valid means of identification.
