Bryson Tiller is from Louisville, Kentucky, a contemporary R&B songwriter, guitarist and sometime rapper. On January 2, 1993, he was born as Bryson Djuan Tiller. When he was 4, his mother passed away.
At the age of 15, Tiller started singing and rapping and finally began composing and performing his own songs. He worked full-time at Papa John’s after school and used his free time right from his living room to make songs.
Tiller produced waves such as “Don’t”, “Break Bread”, “Let ‘Em Know” and “Sorry Not Sorry” with SoundCloud uploads. In May 2015, the former single, a sparse ballad, was officially released. About the same moment, Tiller was used in “I Want You” by Kam Wil and “Lime Light” by Tyrant. His creativity drew Drake’s interest and he appeared to be aligned with the OVO Sound label of the Canadian star until he agreed to sign with RCA, which is also home to Tinashe and Miguel’s likes.
In October 2015, Tiller launched his debut album “T R A P S O U L” under the main label. The record debuted on Billboard 200 at No. 11 but then steadily moved up the list of all-genre songs. In the middle of January 2016, it reached No. 8.
Talking about his musical style, Tiller says, “It’s just trap and hip hop-influenced R&B, the perfect marriage between hip hop and R&B.” As his greatest influence, he has cited American singer Omarion. Additional influences include R. Kelly, The-Dream, Lil Wayne, Drake, and Chris Brown. Tiller’s style has been contrasted by reviewers with that of Jeremih, Drake, PartyNextDoor, and Tory Lanez.
