At the time, it was said she died of pneumonia. However, the new docuseries have revealed there may be something darker behind her mysterious death.
Murphy’s close friends revealed her career slowed after her marriage with Simon Monjack.
Simon had some dubious past romances and her friends were almost certain he was using Murphy for her money, as per New York Post.
Filmmaker Allison Burnett claimed she was horrified when she found out about Murphy and Monjack’s romance. Burnett first met Monjack at a dinner party in 1999 where he was dating another woman.
He apparently lied bluffed about dating Madonna, owning 17 Ferraris, and serving terminal brain cancer.
She was sure he was dating the unnamed woman for her money and thus was horrified after knowing about Murphy and Monjack.
Ms. Burnett even tried requesting her call agency to warn Murphy of Monjack’s intention but that did not go as planned. Murphy eventually married him in 2007.
Her friends say Murphy was visibly stressed and lost a lot of weight after her wedding. Ed Winter, who handled Murphy’s case, said her death could have been avoided if she was taken to the hospital on time.

Murphy’s friend and well-wisher Ryland said things got bizarre after her death.
Her mother lived with Murphy and Simon and continued to live with Simon after her death. When Ryland visited her, she said it appeared she and Simon shared a bedroom and wondered about their relationship.
Further, Simon died five months after Murphy’s death. He also died of pneumonia.
