Britain extends support to Ukraine

At the G20 conference on Tuesday, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reaffirmed his support for Ukraine and confirmed a long-planned order for warships from BAE Systems.

Sunak stated that the administration of Russian President Vladimir Putin would hear the chorus of worldwide resistance to its activities.

“Russia’s actions put all of us at risk,” he stated at the Bali meeting.
“As we give the Ukrainian people the support they need, we are also harnessing the breadth and depth of UK expertise to protect ourselves and our allies.”

In addition, Sunak awarded BAE Systems a $4.94 billion deal to construct five ships for the Royal Navy, according to a government release.

In addition to the three ships already under construction, this contract represents the next phase of the Type 26 frigate program. According to the announcement, all eight Type 26 frigates are projected to be completed by the middle of the 2030s.

Since 2015, when the program was reduced from 13 ships to eight, the British government has intended to construct eight Type 26s.

According to the government, ships of this type will be modern warships engaged in anti-submarine warfare to protect the British nuclear deterrent at sea.

The statement stated that the prime minister and other leaders would emphasize during this week’s summit that Russia’s place in the international system would never be normalized as long as the war in Ukraine continued.

On Monday, Sunak arrived in Bali, Indonesia, for the summit, where he is set to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

In support of Ukraine, the United Kingdom announced last week that it would shortly deliver 1,000 more surface-to-air missiles to the Ukrainian military.

The United Kingdom recently confirmed the shipment of an additional 12,000 sleeping kits for extremely cold conditions.

The developments come as Britain prepares for a budget on November 17 that will outline expenditure reductions and tax increases.
