Brian Whitman Biography

Brian Whitman is an American talk radio host, voice impressionist, and comedian. Whitman was born on Staten Island, New York and graduated from Wagner College in May 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He attended New York City Public High School and graduated from Tottenville High School on January 1990.

Whitman’s radio beginning came in 1986, at the age of 13, when Radio Legend Scott Shannon took note of Whitman’s skills, then morning host and program director at New York’s powerhouse Z-100. According to Brian, he called Ronald Reagan and Rodney Dangerfield to the famous”Z-100 Morning Zoo” show. Shannon invited him to be a morning co-host at the radio station.

“That was it,” said Whitman. “That morning, I decided what I wanted to do for my living. I owe it all to Scott. Scott even sent a car to my mom and dad’s home on Staten Island and I was paid $100 for my performance on the air. That’s why I’m holding up June 20, 1986, as the start of my career.”

He was recruited to host morning drive-by KKBH 102.9 The Beach in San Diego at the age of 22! KKBH, owned by Gannett had a great relationship with Brian Whitman after his five years of contributions to their LA powerhouse The Rick Dees In The Morning Show on KIIS FM. 102.9 The Beach-which played “The Greatest Hits of the 70’s” featured songs older than Brian! After a year,

Whitman was recruited to host the morning show by the iconic rock station of San Diego, 101 KGB FM. His on-air partner and producer were Jack Silver, former director of the KKBH Program (and future boss at KLSX in Los Angeles). When Whitman accepted a work offer from WABC in New York, “The Brian and Jack Show” wrapped up in early 1997.

From 1991 to 2005, Whitman served on both the Rick Dees & Ryan Seacrest Morning Shows at KIIS FM in Los Angeles as the resident funny voice man and comedy performer and author. In June 2005, he left both KIIS and ABC Radio to enter the KLSX FM of CBS Radio. He operated his own domestic radio comedy service that provided hundreds of stations with famous impressions, original characters and comedy pieces.

Stations included WPLJ-FM and WABC-AM in New York, WLUP-FM in Chicago, KIOI-FM in San Francisco, WEGX-FM in Philadelphia and WHYI-FM in Miami, and syndicated shows including The Sean Hannity Show, The Glenn Beck Program, The Mike Gallagher Show and The Stephanie Miller Show.

Whitman was the morning host for a nationally syndicated comedy radio network (which also offered internet audio and video stream ahead of its time) called Comedy World in 2000. He started a program roster with comedians Craig Shoemaker and Bobby Slayton in Los Angeles.

The uncanny impressions of Whitman’s celebrity have fooled mainstream media and others. In the 90s, like President Clinton, he made an unforgettable phone call to Former Vice President Dan Quayle and a duped Quayle spoke for five minutes to “Clinton.” Whitman broke character at the end of the conversation and let Quayle know it was calling Brian Whitman and certainly not the President.

A 2005 domestic radio interview in which he impersonated Michael Jackson had listeners and the leadership of ABC Radio believed Jackson was actually on their radio. More lately, a radio skit he made with co-host Tim Conway, Jr., where he performed Don Imus (at the height of a debate with Imus) led the Los Angeles Times to report that the true Don Imus was on the air, even citing Whitman’s

Whitman and his friend and political enemy Sean Hannity visited America during this moment performing live shows, entertaining enormous crowds in towns like NY, LA, Dallas, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas and many more! Media superstar Glenn Beck, Whitman’s twenty-year-old friend, writes on Brian’s bestseller Imus controversy, “An Inconvenient Book.

Brian Whitman Career

Whitman co-hosted the Conway and Whitman Show at KLSX in Los Angeles, California between 2005 and 2008 with Tim Conway Jr. In 2009, Whitman also hosted a weekday morning webcast on allnumber1hits.com by Rick Dees Entertainment. Brian Whitman was a featured contributor to radio and television programs by Glenn Beck. When Glenn Beck first appeared on Glenn’s first television show on Cable news, Brian said he was proud to be asked and honored. For fifteen years, Beck and Whitman were friends, and Beck wanted Whitman to be his first guest. On the air, Whitman quipped, “So, I’m guessing the Pope wasn’t available tonight?” Brian also served as the regular fill-in host on Beck’s nationally syndicated radio program for years.

Brian was Los Angeles personality’s first former KLSX to launch a podcast he hosted solo in 2009. He has quipped that he is “The Podcast Pioneer” and indicates, perhaps tongue-in-cheek, that he has made a major contribution to the avalanche of podcasts that followed his, many of which have been affected by KLSX FM Talk’s dominant period. He went on with his former radio partner to do a podcast show

While Brian’s media success is overwhelmingly owing to his comedic skills, Whitman also spoke publicly on his radio programs, as well as podcasts, about profoundly personal problems ranging from the premature passing of his parents only weeks apart to struggles with depression and medication reliance that he has dealt with in a very public manner.

He put it this way in the latest interview: “I went on the radio to entertain individuals, to make them laugh, not to save the world. I also believe that a broadcaster has a great chance to bond with an audience when it (or she) puts itself out there, vulnerabilities and everything. My listeners come to me to be entertained, but I also think it’s critical to bond with them personally.

In 2011, at the urge of his compliance Sam Rubin, Brian Whitman called LA’s “KTLA Morning News” and for a little bit fooled the news anchors, thinking that Regis had called the show just days after he left his dynasty, “Live with Regis & Kelly.” Everyone on the KTLA Morning News had a lot of fun and laughed so hard on the air.

On May 31, 2012, on AM 870 The Answer and AM 590 The Answer (KRLA AM 870 and KTIE AM 590) with Heidi Harris and Benjamin Shapiro, Brian Whitman joined the Salem Radio Network / KRLA Radio in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and Inland Empire region. Whitman played more of a leading role in “The Morning Answer with Heidi, Brian, and Ben” in November 2012.

Heidi Harris left the morning show when Salem on March 2013 did not renew her contract. Elisha Krauss, the former producer of Sean Hannity, was brought in to replace Harris. The new show, called “The Morning Answer with Brian Whitman, Ben Shapiro, and Elisha Krauss” officially debuted across Southern California on April 2, 2013.
