Brian Kibler Biography (Age)

Brian McCormick Kibler was born on September 7, 1980, in Hampstead, New Hampshire (where he was also raised).

He is an alumnus of Phillips Academy, a boarding school located in Andover, Massachusetts, and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned a degree in philosophy and religion.

Career

He started his career (Magic: The Gathering) in 1995 at the age of 15. He competed in the junior division of the very first Pro Tour – the 1996 New York Pro Tour and took the 30th position. In 1997 he made a breakthrough qualifying for the 1997 Chicago Pro Tour after winning the Grand Prix in Toronto. All the other players who made it to the top 8 in the Toronto Grand Prix all worked together at Wizards of the Coast.

Later that same year (1997), Kibler attended the Pro Tour of Los Angeles for the 1997–98 season and was a Top 64; unfortunately, he did not return to the Pro Tour until the 1999–2000 season. In 2000, Brian cracked the top 8 on Pro Tour Chicago 2000.

At this tournament, he earned the name Dragonmaster, following his defeat of Jon Finkel in Suisserondes and Zvi Mowshowitz in the quarter-finals. He unfortunately lost to Kai Budde in the semi-finals and placed third overall. This tournament became Brian Kibler’s last before his retirement at the end of the 2004 season.

After several years, Kibler made a huge comeback in 2009, when he explained that his decision to return was to enter the Magic: The Gathering Hall of Fame, which was instituted in 2010, a year after his retirement. His comeback actually brought up so many surprises that he quickly joined Pro Tour Honolulu’s back-to-back Top 8 and Top 8 Pro Tour before recording his first Pro Tour at Pro Tour Austin after defeating Tsuyoshi Ikeda in the final.

At the end of 2009, he was named among the top 10 Magic Pro Tour, he accumulated enough points to allow him to invite not only to major championships, but also free air travel and, above all, a fee participation guaranteed for all events in 2010. These gradually brought him closer to his dream of being inducted into the unifying Hall of Fame.

Also in 2010, he was among the 6th voted by the player committee for possible inclusion in the 2009 Hall of Fame. His dream finally came to fruition after his third Grand Prix title and another Pro Tour Top 8. He was inducted into the 2010 Hall of Fame alongside French professional card player Gabriel Nassif and Dutch Magic: The Gathering player Bram Snepvangers.

His career didn’t end with his inductionInducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012, he competed in another Pro Tour Top 8 at Pro Tour Dark Ascension in Honolulu – the fifth of his career. In the semi-finals he defeated Jon Finkel again to face teammate Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa in the final and defeated him in a 3–2 victory, his second Pro Tour title.

The win secured him a spot in the inaugural MagicPlayers Championship where he became the United States National Champion, earning the most Pro Points. Brian Kibler also won the ChallengeStone tournaments in 2015 and 2016 respectively. He took second place in GEICO Brawl #1 in 2015 and at BlizzCon 2016.

Brian served as a commentator on Hearthstone tournament, he also streamed his Hearthstone gameplay on Twitch.
