Prior to Miami Dolphins, he worked as an assistant coach from 2008 to 2018 in New England Patriots.

Brian Flores Racist Allegations: Why Is He Suing NFL?

Brain Flores makes racist allegations against NFL and the teams on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court. He sued NFL for engaging in discriminatory hiring practices against Black candidates for coaching and front-office positions.

He also claims that the organization conducted sham interviews under the pretense of following the Rooney Rule.

Not only NFL he has also sued three of its teams, the Broncos, Dolphins, and Giants.

Flores’ lawsuit claims that the league discriminated against him and other Black coaches because of their race. The organization denies them positions as head coaches, offensive and defensive coordinators, quarterbacks coaches, and general managers.

The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, claims that the NFL and its teams violated Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866. Also the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, the New York State Human Rights Law, and the New York City Human Rights Law.

“It was time to stop being silent about the social injustice that is happening,” Flores’ team told NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe over the phone. “This had been long overdue. There is a lot of racism that needs to be addressed.”

He has a long list of complaints about every team which we will explain below.

Brain Flores Complaint Lawsuit Explained

Brain Flores filed a complaint lawsuit against the NFL and its three teams, including, the Broncos, Dolphins, and Giants.

He claims that the New York Giants conducted a “sham interview” with Flores for their open position.

The suit claims that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick “inadvertently disclosed” to Flores in a text message that the team planned to hire Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

The message was exchanged on Jan. 24, three days before Flores was scheduled to interview with the Giants. And two days following his interview, the Giants officially announced Daboll’s hiring.

Similarly, his suit further claims the sham interview with the Broncos in 2019. According to the lawsuit, Broncos then-general manager John Elway, CEO Joe Ellis, and others arrived an hour late for the interview and appeared “disheveled”.

“It depicts the clear signs that they were drinking heavily the night before. The claim state that it was obvious that the Broncos interviewed Flores to uphold the Rooney Rule.

And that the Broncos never had any actual intent of considering him as a legitimate candidate for the job.”

Now let’s talk about Dolphins, Flores was fired by the Dolphins last month even after back-to-back winning seasons with a 24-25 record over three years.

The lawsuit describes the Dolphins’ firing of Flores as typical of Black coaches who are not given the same latitude as other coaches to succeed.

It also states that the Dolphins’ cold treatment towards Flores was after he refused to accept a $100,000-a-game offer from Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

He was forced to “tank” in his first season so the team could secure the top draft pick.
