On February 17, 1986, Brett Alan Kern, a punter with the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League, was born. He attended Toledo University and participated in NCAA football until the Denver Broncos chose him as an undrafted free agent in 2008.
After being released by the Broncos after less than two complete seasons, Kern was acquired by the Titans. While playing for the team, Kern was chosen for the Pro Bowl three times and twice made the All-Pro team.
On November 7, 2020, Kern was placed on injured reserve following a wrist injury he suffered in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The date of activation was November 28, 2020. The Titans added Kern to the reserve/COVID-19 list on December 29, 2020. On January 2, 2021, he was then put into service.
The Titans won the AFC South for the 2020 season after finishing 11-5 and becoming eligible for the postseason. In the Wild Card Round game against the Baltimore Ravens, Kern punted five times for a total of 228 net yards and an average distance of 45.6 yards.
On October 12, 2021, Kern was added to the Titans’ COVID-19 reserve list. He had missed the previous two games due to a groin injury. In 2021, Kern was activated on October 22.
