Breonna Tylor case update: The trial of a former cop involved in the raid on the victim is set to begin, and he is anticipated to testify in his own defense.
Breonna Taylor was a full-time ER technician at the University of Louisville Health and a former emergency medical technician. On March 21, 2020, she was laid to rest. Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, was in the apartment with her at the time and fired the bullets at what he thought were intruders.
Taylor had no role in the drug activities, that she held money from the revenues for him as a favor, and that she handled cash for him for other purposes, according to a number of statements.
Jamarcus Glover said in many taped jailhouses chats that Taylor had been managing his money and was holding $8,000 of it, that he had handed the money to Breonna to pay the phone bills, and that he had informed his sister that another lady was keeping the group’s money.
Breonna Taylor Case Update: Who Shot Her?
On March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African-American woman, was fatally shot in her Louisville, Kentucky, apartment by white officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove of the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) as part of an investigation into drug dealing operations.
Kenneth Walker, Taylor’s boyfriend, was inside the flat with her when the plainclothes cops knocked and subsequently forced entrance.
The policemen said they made an announcement before forcing access, but Walker claimed he didn’t hear anything and mistook the officers for invaders, firing a warning shot at them.
Officers fired 32 bullets in response to the gunfire that wounded Mattingly in the leg. Walker was unharmed, but Taylor, who was standing behind Walker, was killed by six gunshots. Taylor’s residence was never searched, according to authorities.
In the trial of the police officers who were involved in the tragic drugs raid that killed Breonna Taylor, a jury has been chosen. The trial Brett Hankison will begin with opening remarks on Wednesday morning.
Hankison is the sole officer accused in the failed raid that resulted in Taylor’s murder, despite the fact that his rounds did not strike Taylor.
Because of an ongoing federal investigation, one of the cops who shot Taylor, Jonathan Mattingly, has asserted his Fifth Amendment protection and will not testify at the trial.
The Trial will last around two weeks.
Breonna Boyfriend Kenneth Walker Charged – What Happened?
Kenneth Walker, Taylor’s boyfriend, was charged with assault and attempted murder of a police officer, but the charges were dropped after a year. The LMPD dismissed Hankison on June 23, 2020, for shooting through Taylor’s apartment’s covered patio door and window.
The city of Louisville decided to compensate Taylor’s family $12 million and modify police tactics on September 15. A state grand jury indicted Hankison on three charges of wanton endangerment on September 23, accusing him of harming Taylor’s neighbors with his gunfire.
Two of the jurors stated on October 2, 2020, claiming that the grand jury had not been provided with homicide charges against the police officers. A number of jurors have also accused Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and the police of concealing up the incident.
The shooting of Taylor by police officers sparked a flurry of rallies around the country against police violence and racism.
