Minor League Career

Towards the end of the 2011 season, Nimmo played ten games with the Gulf Coast Mets and the Kingsport Mets. He combined to hit .211 with four runs batted in. Nimmo spent the following season with the Class A-Short Season Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York–Penn League.

Brandon Nimmo began the 2013 season with the Class-A Savannah Sand Gnats and was ranked fourth among Mets prospects. He was the leading hitter in the South Atlantic League by April 17, with a .447 batting average, earning him a SAL mid-season All-Star nod. Nimmo was also voted into the 2013 All-Star Futures Game held at the Mets’ Citi Field.

In the 2014 season, Nimmo started with Class-A Advanced St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League. After batting .322 with four home runs, 25 RBIs, a .448 on-base percentage and .458 slugging percentage to earn FSL All-Star honors, he received a mid-season promotion to Double-A Binghamton Mets on June 19. Brandon Nimmo posted a .278 Avg, 10 HR and 51 RBI between his two clubs.

Nimmo was promoted to the Binghamton Mets after a brief four-game stint with St. Lucie at the start of the 2015 season. On April 29, he suffered a knee injury that caused him to miss some playing time.

Major League Career

On June 25, 2016, Brandon Nimmo was promoted to the Major Leagues to replace the slumping Michael Conforto whose batting average had fallen to .130 since May 1. He made his major league debut the next day against the Atlanta Braves and went 0-for-4.

Brandon Nimmo was chosen to be part of Team Italy in 2017, in the World Baseball Classic. Nimmo strained his right hamstring while playing in the World Baseball Classic. He began his season in the minor leagues when he recovered in late April, as the injury left him unable to join the Mets Opening Day roster.

Up until August 2017, Nimmo had slugged .346 in his career. In September, he slugged .479 and continued to show increased power in 2018, slugging over .500 through the season’s first two months. Nimmo batted .263/.404/.483, with 17 home runs and 47 RBI in 2018. He led the majors in hit by pitch, with 20.

Brandon Nimmo Chicken

On the night of February 26, 2019, Brandon Nimmo cooked a homemade dinner of baked chicken and some sweet potato. After retiring to bed, he woke up at around 1am and started vomiting. The puking lasted for eight hours prompting him to miss spring training with the Mets. At first, it was thought to be food poisoning resulting from undercooked chicken. However, after the results of his blood samples were released, it was found out that it was a virus instead.

Brandon Nimmo Injury | News

When Brandon Nimmo awoke on the morning of April 16, 2019, he felt an uncharacteristic soreness in his neck but nothing overly serious, but notable nonetheless. He commuted to Citizens Bank Park and received some massage therapy, but otherwise, he thought little of it.

Brandon Nimmo was originally put on the injured list with what the Mets described as a stiff neck. After he received an MRI, the Mets announced that he was suffering from inflammation in his neck. After regaining full motion of his neck, Nimmo spent weeks in rehab.

After many weeks on the injured list, Nimmo was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of the Mets’ game on September 1, 2019. It had been a long and tough road back for Nimmo, who had been on the injured list since May 21 with a bulging disc in his neck.

Brandon Nimmo Amed Rosario

Brandon Nimmo’s extended absence from the 2019 season forced the Mets to get creative. The center fielder left an enormous gap in the Mets center field and a ton of possible solutions emerged as a result. Fans saw infielders J.D. Davis, Dom Smith, and Jeff McNeil beyond the diamond. Later, the team moved shortstop Amed Rosario to center field.

Callaway, Mets coach, approached Rosario about a possible transition to the outfield following Nimmo’s absence. The shortstop said he played in the outfield before he became a professional baseball player. Rosario shags fly balls during batting practice, but that’s the extent of his experience taking reps in the outfield.

Callaway cited diversity as one of the reasons the Mets are considered Rosario’s transition to center field. The Mets lineup improves when Davis or Smith is parked in the left field. New York hopes more of the same will happen with Rosario.

Brandon Nimmo Sixth Homer

Nimmo smacked his sixth homer on September 16, 2019, in their game against the Rockies. He went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in that game. The Mets, however, lost the game.

The 26-year-old is hitting only .241 (7-for-29) in 14 games since coming off the injured list at the beginning of September, but Nimmo’s 12:11 BB:K has given him a .465 OBP in that span. On the year, he’s slashing .208/.369/.384 through 57 contests with six homers and 22 RBI.
