Brad Falchuk earned a master’s degree in screenwriting at the AFI Conservatory, which helped him launch his television career. He began his writing career with Mutant X (2001), Earth: Final Conflict (2001-02), and Veritas: The Quest.
He was hired later that year to work on the first season of Nip/Tuck, when he met Ryan Murphy. Falchuk and Murphy formed an alliance that resulted in the creation of Pretty/Handsome, a television pilot about a transgender gynecologist. Despite the fact that FX purchased the pilot in 2008, it was not picked up as a series.
As Nip/Tuck came to a close, Falchuk and Murphy were looking for their next project and wanted to work on something lighter. They offered a one-hour comedy about a glee club to Fox Broadcasting Company alongside Ian Brennan, who had written a script about high school show choirs.
Glee premiered in 2009, thanks to their excellent pitch. Falchuk, Murphy, and Brennan were nominated for two Writers Guild of America Awards, one for Best Comedy Series and the other for Best New Series.
