Boris Jordan (Russian: орис лексееви ордaн; born June 2, 1966) is a Russian-born American businessman who was born in the United States. He is proficient in both English and Russian languages. Boris Jordan, an American of Russian heritage, was instrumental in Russia’s economic transition to capitalism in the early 1990s, helping in the establishment of the Russian stock market and the privatisation of state assets. Jordan was then promoted to the position of chief executive of Russia’s Gazprom Media, as well as general director of the country’s NTV television network. However, he was forced to leave in early 2003 due to pressure from the government. Boris Jordan, along with New Zealander Stephen Jennings, was one of the founding members of the Renaissance Capital investment firm, which was established in 1995.
He also serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Sputnik Group Ltd., which he founded in 1998. In the past, the Sputnik Group was responsible for managing the Sputnik Funds, which were the biggest international private equity funds investing in Russia at the time. Current holdings include proprietary interests in the Russian insurance (Renaissance Insurance), forestry, telecommunications, and media sectors – as well as assortment of international investments in domestic corporations. As a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Board of Trustees of New York University, Mr. Jordan has served on the organisations’ boards of directors since 2007.
