She started playing the guitar at a young age, later she became famous for her bottleneck-style guitar playing. Some of her hits include “Nick of Time”, “Something to Talk About”, “Love Sneakin’ Up on You” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. She has won nine Grammy Awards for her music and she is also well-known as a political activist. She attended Harvard’s Radcliffe College in 1967 majoring in African Studies; she left school in her sophomore year to move to Philadelphia with blues promoter and friend Dick Waterman. Raitt was appearing at the Gaslight Café in New York in the fall of 1970 when a reporter from Newsweek Magazine saw her performing and started spreading the word about her abilities. She began to be scouted by major record companies and eventually signed a contract with Warner Brothers. In March 2000, Raitt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
