Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston Age Gap Was An Issue At The Time of Their Wedding

Bobby Brown age when he met Whitney Houston was just 20 years old. Bobby and Whitney crossed paths at the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards. 

Brown and Whitney had their first meeting on April 13, 1989. It was when Whitney accidentally bumped into Bobby’s head while she was hugging her friend behind him, reports People.

The two fell in love almost instantly and later revealed it was because of their attitudes. 

Whitney recalled Brown as a snappy young man who appeared to dislike her getting better of her curiosity while Brown recalls Whitney’s can-do attitude as the major factor for their attraction. 

During their first meet, Brown was in the front row and Whitney sat just behind him. However, while she was hugging one of her friends, she kept on bumping into Bobby’s head to which she apologized. Bobby in return asked her to not let it happen again. 

Their initial encounter sparked enough fire for Whitney to invite Bobby to her 26th birthday party on August 9, 1989. Brown attended Houston’s birthday party. 

The pair had another unplanned meeting in August 1989, they were both attending BeBe and CeCe Winans concert in LA when they went out with CeCe for dinner after the performance. Brown gathered his courage to ask Houston out which she gracefully accepted. The pair went on their first official date the next night. 

Houston and Bobby had quite a day in the summer of 1989 during their first date. The pair went shopping in Beverly Hills and had a wonderful dinner at Ivy in LA and hung around for the evening together. They also watched Uncle Buck together on their first date. 

Although Houston was dating someone else at the time when she accepted the date with Brown, the pair began a relationship shortly after. The pair’s relationship began as friends but the next big step came in 1991 when Brown accompanied Whitney on her I’m Your Baby Tonight World Tour.

Bobby purposed to Houston on a ride home from the airport in the backseat of the car. Houston had come to pick up Bobby at the airport and when they were traveling home the King of Stage singer popped the question to which Whitney replied with may “yes” and asked to pull the car over.

According to People, Bobby had purposed to Whitney before as well but she denied getting married and accepted the proposal as she did not have any intentions of getting married. However, the I’m Your Baby Tonight singer could not resist the second time. 

While the pair might have gotten engaged in September 1991, they waited nearly a year before tying the knot on July 18, 1992. The couple’s nuptials were held at Houston’s $11 million mansion in New Jersey.

Her father John Russell Houston walked her down the aisle to the altar where Bobby was waiting dressed in a white suit. The pair exchanged their wedding vows in front of 800 guests in attendance.

Their extravagant wedding included a $40,000 bridal dress from Marc Bouwer, the French laced dress was replaced by a purple one during the reception party of the couple’s wedding. Houston later revealed she was an emotional wreck during the wedding and Brown admitted to locking himself in the bathroom out of fear.

The couple had a rocky start to their relationship, according to people. Whitney returned with a scar on her face which ran from her cheek to the jaw and admitted to having an argument during their honeymoon. She said the cut was from a shattered glass that she threw on the wall.

Nonetheless, the pair were married for nearly one and a half decades and welcomed a beautiful daughter together. 

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was a singer as well. Kristina was born on March 4, 1993.

The Two Can Play That Game singer and My Love Is Your Love singer announced they were expecting their first child together in September 1992, just two months after their wedding. According to Washinton Post, Houston was already pregnant at their wedding. 

While, the pair confirmed their pregnancy they did not disclose anything about the gender of the child but hoped it was a baby girl. The father also revealed he had a name in mind “Bobbi,” his expectations were met and they did name their daughter Bobbi. 

Fast forward many years, Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown kids Bobbi Kristina followed in her parent’s footsteps. She wanted to become a singer and dancer and made numerous stage appearances with her mother as well. 

Bobbi’s voice was featured in Whitney’s 1998 song My Love Is Your Love where the little one is heard saying “Sing mommy” at the beginning of the song and “Clap your hands” at the end. Unfortunately, her career was cut short, way short by an accident. 

In addition to Bobbi Kristina, Bobby Brown has six other children. He has sons Landon, Bobby Brown, Jr., and one more with Alicia Etheredge. He also has daughters La’Princia and two more. 

Bobbi Kristina Brown Had A Similar Fate As Of Mother

Bobbi Kristina Bown was found drowned and unconscious in her home’s bathtub on January 31, 2015.

She was immediately taken to the hospital and was put into a medically induced coma due to diminished brain activity. Unlike in her mother’s case, there were no traces of substance abuse but the claim was later disputed. 

Bobbi Kristina Bown passed away on July 26, 2015, at the age of 22 years old. She was engaged and ceremonially married to Nick Gordon at the time of her death, the pair engaged in July 2013 and the announcement of their wedding was made on January 9, 2014. 

However, the pair never married legally. Making their relationship more complicated, Nick lived in Bobbi’s house starting at age 12 but was never formally adopted. They made quite a show among the family with the announcement of the engagement as she has previously referred to Nick as her “Big Bruh.”
