Bob rose to fame after defeating Billy Graham and becoming the WWWF heavyweight champion in 1978. Initially, he was a state finalist in wrestling at Princeton High School. In his freshman year, Bob was described as an All-American in both football and wrestling.
He then focused on wrestling and earned Honors because of his talent. From there, he started working for Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW) in 1975. There he was able to team up with Jerry Brisco before winning the NWA Georgia Tag Team Championships from Toru Tanaka.
Later, Bob left Georgia for Championship Wrestling and teamed up with Stevekeirn to defeat Bob Orton Jr. Backlund was also a guest on MTV’s Singled Out. He also appeared as an actor in sketches with hosts like Jenny McCarthy and Chris Hardwick.
