Bo Derek is an American film and television actress, model and film producer who is perhaps best known for her breakthrough role in the 1979 film 10.
Bo was directed by her husband John Derek, in Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981), Bolero (1984) and Ghosts Can’t Do It (1989), all of which received negative reviews.

Bo began her acting career in 1973, where she starred on a film called Fantasies which was produced by her husband John Derek. The film was shot in Greece over a period of 10 days. However, the film remained unreleased until 1981. After its’s release, it received negative criticism.
Later in 1977, Derek was cast in a small role in director Michael Anderson’s horror film Orca – The Killer Whale.
In 1979, it is alleged that the actress was selected over Melanie Griffith, Heather Thomas, and several others for the role of Jenny Hanley in the romantic comedy film 10. Starring the film was Dudley Moore. Dudley played the role of a middle-aged man, who finds Derek’s character, Jenny Hanley to be the ideal woman.
In a dream sequence, Derek made an appearance in a flimsy flesh-colored swimsuit, racing towards Dudley Moore. That appearance launched her status as a mainstream sex symbol. In the film she also had cornrows and they have often been parodied.
In 1980, Derek was cast in a dramatic-comedy film titled A Change of Seasons. In the film, she played a college student who has an affair with her older, married professor.
Derek was photographed twice for the Playboy magazine in the year 1980. She would later be featured again in the magazine in 1981, 1984, and 1994.
