Björk’s Bio (Age and Ethnicity)
The legendary music legend was born in the capital and largest city of Iceland, Reykjavik. She was born on November 21, 1965 to activist Hildur Rúna Hauksdóttir and union leader and electrician father Guðmundur Gunnarsson. Her mother Hildur is known for her involvement in the construction of the Kárahnjúkar hydroelectric power station in Iceland.
The union between her parents was only for a short time during as her parents divorced as soon as she was born. After her parents split up, her mother moved her to a place called Commune and later remarried to a guitarist named Sævar Árnason.
Björk learned to play the classical piano and flute when she was six. The singer was one of the best in her set while she was at music school and later one of her records was played on RÚV radio station despite her youth.
It was at this point that Björk’s career took shape and she recorded her self-titled single; Björk just when she was 11. During her teenage years, she joined several band groups, including an all-female band Spitte und Rotz ; Jam-80 Established in 1981, later renamed Tappi Tikarras; a jazz group called Exodus formed in 1979 and a gothic rock band KUKL .
Bjork has recorded over eight studio albums including Björk (1977), Debut (1993), Post (1995), Homogen (1997), Vespertine (2001), Mark (2004), Volta (2007), Biophilia (2011), Vulnicura ( 2015) and Utopia (2017) just to name a few.
Showing off her stints in the acting world, she also did remarkably well as an actress. She has acted in a few films including Glerbrot (1987), The Juniper Tree (1990), Dancers in the Dark (2000) among others.
Family – husband and son
Bjork’s first marriage was to Thor Eldon. The two were married in a very small ceremony on June 8, 1986 after she met him during her days in the Sugar Cubes Band. Their marriage later soured, resulting in a divorce in 1987. However, during their marriage, they had a son named Sindri Eldon Þórsson. Sindri works as a journalist and founded the solo project Sindri Eldon. He was also the cinematographer for the documentary Screaming Masterpiece .
After that, Björk became a freelancer when it came to relationships and she has since been romantically involved with many music personalities such as Goldie, Tricky and others.
While promoting the film Dancers in the Dark she fell in love with Matthew Barney. They later married and their marriage was blessed with a woman named Isadora Bjarkardottir Barney, born on October 3, 2002. Everything seemed perfect and all was going well until they divorced in September 2013.
Exactly two years after their split, Mathew sued Barney Björk for custody of their daughter. Isadora claimed that his ex-wife prioritized her success over her daughter’s emotional well-being.
Where is she now?
Her last public appearance was in 2017. She is an active member of 7 Inches for Planned Parenthood and also performed a live version of her song Come to Me as part of her contribution to the group.
She has been a composer, singer and music master for over 40 years. She later wrote a career-spanning songbook consisting of her musical genres entitled 34 scores for piano, organ, harpsichord and celeste , which was released in June 2017.
