Billy Thomson Children: Did Billy Thomson Have Kids?

William Marshall Thomson, a Scottish football player who played goalkeeping, was born on February 10, 1958, and passed away on February 6, 2023. Thomson was a member of Partick Thistle, St. Mirren, Dundee United, Clydebank, Motherwell, Rangers, and Dundee at the club level.

In two Scottish Cup finals and the 1987 UEFA Cup Final, he represented Dundee United. Between 1980 and 1983, he played for Scotland in seven full international matches.

He served as a goalkeeping coach for Stranraer, Kilmarnock, Rangers, and Dundee.

Thomson began his professional career with Partick Thistle. The youngster was regarded highly and was given first-team experience in League Cup and Glasgow Cup games. He also earned his first two Scotland U21 caps.

In August 1978, a bid of £50,000 was made for him, which was considered unusual for a 20-year-old reserve at a relatively unfashionable club at the time. The bid was accepted by Thistle. He appeared in the league only once as Alan Rough’s understudy.

In August 1978, Jim Clunie signed the 20-year-old for St Mirren for £50,000. He spent six seasons with Paisley, making 317 first-team appearances. In the League Cup, he made his debut against Dumbarton. He broke into the Scotland squad and went on to win seven full caps for the Saints. Thomson had a successful club career, best known for UEFA Cup saves from AS Saint-Johnny Étienne’s Rep and Laurent Roussey.

During the 1983-84 season, he was fined by St Mirren for making disparaging remarks about wages and working conditions. Alex Miller, the manager at the time, stated that Thomson would never play for the Saints again. Thomson was sold in June 1984 for £75,000 pounds.
