Democratic Party member Bill de Blasio presided as New York City’s 109th mayor from 2014 to 2021. In Norwalk, Connecticut, on May 8, 1961, Warren Wilhelm Jr. was born.
Despite not residing in New York City, his parents traveled to Manhattan’s Doctors Hospital to give birth to him. Steven and Donald are his two older brothers.
Bill de Blasio replaced Warren de Blasio-Wilhelm as De Blasio’s name twice, first in 2001 and then in 1983.
He did it to honor his mother’s family and to put his father out of his mind. His father, Warren Wilhelm, was of German, English, French, and Scots-Irish ancestry, while his mother, Maria Angela de Blasio, was of Italian descent.
