Big Pun, also known as Christopher Lee Rios, was born in The Bronx, New York, and had a very hard childhood. His mother was a drug addict, his father passed away early on, and his stepfather was abusive. He grew up largely with his grandmother and had severe anger management issues. He dropped out of high school, and lived on the street for a few years. He began writing rap lyrics in the 90s, and co-founded the Full-A-Clips Crew with Triple Seis and Cuban Link. In 1997, he scored his first mainstream hit with the Knobody remix of his song, “I’m Not a Player”, featuring Joe, released as, “Still Not a Player”. This led to his first solo album, 1998’s “Capital Punishment”, which went Platinum. It was the first album by a solo Latino rap artist to achieve Platinum status. He passed away in 2000 from a heart attack. His second album was released two months after his death, and also went Platinum. Another album was released in 2001.
