Lately, another one of such dangerous challenges that have gone viral on TikTok is “Benadryl Challenge”. And guys here is a piece of advice, please don’t do this challenge. It is not me but the experts that are warning everyone not to do this challenge because of the life-threatening consequences.

What is Benadryl Challenge on TikTok?
This new Benadryl challenge that is storming on TikTok involves people taking massive amounts of over-the-counter allergy medication, Benadryl to see if they can get high. The idea behind this challenge is that if you take more than 12 tablets of Benadryl then you would start feeling high and start seeing things that are not there.
This challenge is commonly done by teenagers hoping that they would get hallucinations and feel high. Little do they know, that the “Trip” that they are expecting is not a good thing and can even put their life at risk.
Why is this “Benadryl Challenge on TikTok” dangerous?
Benadryl is an antihistamine that contains a component called diphenhydramine. It is used to treat symptoms of allergic reactions, insomnia, and motion sickness. Benadryl is very helpful for allergic people for relieving runny nose, excessive sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, or itchy throat.
Benadryl may look innocent enough drug, however, there are lots of side effects of this over the counter medicine which includes dizziness, drowsiness, loss of coordination, and blurred vision. Those who have taken this medication for anti-allergic purposes must have felt these side effects and thought that it is like getting high.
But the side effects of Benadryl are not limited to the above-mentioned things. There are even more serious side effects that can happen if taken in high doses.
Such serious side effect includes excessively pounding heartbeat, high body temperature, high blood pressure, painful urination, lightheadedness, tightness in the jaw, uncontrollable tongue movement, and many more.
Benadryl Challenge on TikTok sent teens to the hospital
Doctors revealed that three teenagers ere hospitalized in Fort Worth Texas Hospital within a single week after overdosing on diphenhydramine, a.k.a Benadryl. All three of them had said to the medical staff that they got the idea of taking a high amount of Benadryl through the TikTok challenge.
One of those teens was a 14-year-old girl who took about 14 tablets of Benadryl and was rushed to the ER of the local hospital before taking her to Cook’s Children. At one point, her heart rate had reached 199. Fortunately, the next morning, her heart rate returned back to the normal range of 60-100 per minute.
Should I Try This Benadryl Challenge?
Now that I have mentioned many of the reasons why this challenge is dangerous, I don’t think that I even have to say whether you should try it or not. It is one of the dangerous and stupid challenges on TikTok that can cause serious health issues. Overdosing on Benadryl can cause seizures, high BP, high heart rate, and even death.
So, you should definitely not try this challenge. The parents out there should be aware that teenagers are addicted to this video-sharing app, so they should remind their children especially teenagers that this Benadryl challenge can get very harmful for their life.
