Ben Handelman is an American journalist who is an anchor/reporter for FOX6 News. It is his dream to be able to tell the stories of Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin. He joined the FOX6 News team in April 2011. Ben has anchored and reported on every newscast from the morning tonight. Let me tell you about myself a little bit. I grew up in Connecticut, a tiny town in the northwest. My graduating high school class was 89 individuals. So I think I’m a little town boy. While he grew up a lifetime fan of Uconn, at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT, he decided to follow my enthusiasm for broadcasting. Four years later, with a degree in broadcast journalism in hand (and no work), he decided to go trekking.
He survived the long summer trek from Connecticut to San Francisco while he had no previous biking experience (except around my driveway when I was 10). I helped raise thousands of bucks for humankind’s habitat in the process.
When he returned to Connecticut, he realized that perhaps he could begin sending out resumes better. My first bite was in Illinois, Springfield. Although within an 8-hour drive he didn’t have any friends or family, I took the task over the phone and took an opportunity. Since then he hasn’t looked back. He covered Barack Obama’s rise, Rod Blagojevich’s fall, and everything as a general assignment reporter for ABC affiliate WICS.
Eventually, he was asked if I’d like to take a job at our sister station in Champaign as the weekend anchor. I jumped at the opportunity. He arrived at WICD just in time for one of the University of Illinois ‘ biggest scandals in history. He covered the school president’s demise after a supposedly unique treatment was offered to learners with political connections in the admissions process.
He became a bit of an Illini bandwagon fan, too. I enjoy sports, so it was a treat to live in a Big Ten city. He worked with Bret Buganski and meteorologist Brittney Sager at WICD, both of whom are now working at FOX6!
He moved north to Milwaukee to join the FOX6 squad in April 2011. You can discover him from 7-9 am to anchor Weekend Wake Up. Also during the week, you can discover reporting.

Fox 6 names Handelman as anchor after Brad Hicks’ departure
Milwaukee Fox network affiliate WITI-TV (Channel 6) appointed a substitute for Brad Hicks, the deceased anchorman, promoting Ben Handelman to the weekday anchor desk of the station. Since Hicks left in March after about 15 years with WITI, Handelman has been filling in as a weekday anchor. The station said that at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., Friday Handelman will assume permanently the position of co-anchor of newscasts. And now at 9 p.m. With Stephanie Grady, the current co-anchor.
