She substituted Alex Ole Magelo as Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly, who did not compete for his seat. Instantly prior to her election, she was the Majority Whip in the Kenya Senate.

Elachi beat the seat after securing 52,515 votes defeating her tightest competitor Elijah Oenga who got 13,620 votes. Retired Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi is the new Member of Parliament for the Dagoretti North constituency. She beat the seat after connecting 52,515 votes beating her closest competitor Elijah Oenga who got 13,620 votes.
Elachi, who was competing under an ODM ticket, was vested her clearance certificate by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday. Oenga on the other hand was challenging as an independent candidate.
She promised to serve Dagoretti North residents with an emphasis in her 5-year stay in office, thanking them for electing her into the seat. Elachi substituted Simba Arati who redirected interest to the Kisii county governorship seat.

Police hurled teargas canisters to scatter the group which caused an uproar. A rebellious Elachi had trouped to her City Hall-based office in the organization of more than 15 Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) pioneers including Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga.
