Beastie Boys Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Born in New York City in 1981, the Beastie Boys were an American hip hop group best known for their music. For the bulk of its existence, the group was comprised of Michael “Mike D” Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam “MCA” Yauch (vocals, bass), and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz (vocals, keyboards) (vocals, guitar). When Diamond (vocals), John Berry (guitar), Yauch (bass), and Kate Schellenbach (drums) originally formed as a four-piece hardcore punk band in 1981, they were included on the compilation cassette New York Thrash before releasing their debut EP Polly Wog Stew the following year. Berry departed the company soon after, and Horovitz took over as president. In 1983, after gaining modest local popularity with the experimental hip hop 12-inch “Cooky Puss,” Schellenbach left the group, and the group made a complete shift to hip hop, releasing a series of hit songs. Schellenbach died in 2007. In 1985, the Beastie Boys went on tour with Madonna, and a year later, they released their first album, Licensed to Ill (Licensed to Kill). Upon release, the group went on to sell 22 million records in the United States and 40 million albums globally, earning them the title of “the biggest-selling rap group” since 1991, according to Billboard.
The Beastie Boys are one of the longest-running hip hop groups in the world, having released seven platinum or better albums between 1986 and 2004. They are still enjoying financial and critical success more than 25 years after their first album, Licensed to Ill. A digitally remastered deluxe version of the band’s albums Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication, and Hello Nasty was published in 2009, and it is still available today. The Hot Sauce Committee’s eighth studio album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, was released in 2011 to generally favourable reviews. They were admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012, becoming “just the third rap group to be honoured into the Hall, after Run-D.M.C. (2009) and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (2007),” according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. MCA died the next month as a result of cancer of the parotid salivary gland (parotid gland).
